Important Spring Test

I have a 1992 Volante in the shop for maintenance and want to share an important simple test everyone should do before every season. Turn the blower switch on and VERIFY that air is coming out the discharge vent in the rear deck. On this boat you could hear the blower running fine, no bearing howl except there was no air coming out the discharge vent! This one required new vent plumbing from the blower to the top of the fuel tank, found (2) torn/dry-rotten areas, and one pinched closed area. When I did the new model testing for WaterSki Magazine years ago this was one of my pet peeves, about 1 of 5 new ski boats had blowers that would run but had no air discharge, usually defective plumbing and at least once per year the polarity was backwards on the blower! (we did not test a boat unless it passed basic USCG requirements)

Ron,  Great advice as always...   Please tell us an easy way to replace the exhaust hoses behind the gas tank up to the vent.  I know theres probably a few in the condition you described just based on age alone...  I've replaced my blower hose all the way back to the 90 degree PVC pipe, but getting to the vertical portion behind the gas tank has shown to be...  well... damn near impossible without pulling the gas tank...   I'm probably missing something obvious...

Yes this is a bit of a problem, the one in my shop required removing the  3" pcv pipe, when I replaced it I glassed in small foam blocks with a 4" ss hose clamp so the tube could be removed again in the future to change out the flex pipe. The easier way would be to tear out the pipe & run flex all the way. The supplier told us the flex tube would outlast the boat, wish I could find that Rep. now! Or remove the tank....

Yeah, my pvc pipe broke loose, so I ran flex from the blower to the rear vent.   Used the 3" foil flex vent found at Lowes.  So far it has worked fine and easy enough to replace if it gets damaged.  Just need to use someone to help feed it up behind the gas tank.
