Suggestion
« on: December 15, 2009, 04:01:11 AM »
Phil,
Hello, love to see this happening!  Some of the things I have seen on other sites that interest me are- having a "member boat" section with the capability for each owner to tell a story about their boat and include pix of the the same. I'd rather see pix associated with the owner than random pix. This adds character to the overall discussions. Plus if everyone ever gets together for a meeting/reunion we'll have the intel on who's got what.
How about a "For Sale" tab?? ... I think you'll have a great site. As a former Correct Craft owner I still follow "CorrectCraftFan.com" which has a wealth of tech knowledge and good site layout as well.

Thanks Messer.

I will be working on the features you suggested in the next few weeks and months.  When you say "For Sale Tab" what exactly do you mean? Do you mean a forum topic or an actual page?  Where should the tab be?

Thanks for your input.

Messer,

Click on the "Gallery button" then click on "User Albums"  there you will see my personal boat pics with a little background info on my boat.

Nice!  I think we have been on a few of the same sites....  I tried to make an album like yours but I think my stuff dropped to the general gallery.  Here is a link to a few really nice American Skiers. I suspect those folks like me will start migrating over.

have to comment again,

thanks for posting that thread. it was nice to re-read that and I'm actually the one who chimed in Dan Tanis about the discussions going on at ccfan about American Skier. It's awesome that he posted in that thread.... the more I learn about these boats the more I like em and respect everyone who has been involved with them.

Messer,

Just looked into the photo gallery issue you described and actually you did it correctly. If you go to 'Gallery' then 'User Albums' you will see that your own picture album is listed. You might have not seen what you were expecting because all image uploads need to be approved by me until you've made at least ten posts. So after you uploaded them I then needed to "Approve" the photos before they are actually visible to everyone else.  Just a way to cut down on spam...

I really like the addition of the A/S Shield logo to the pages. Your timing to start this new site worked well for me as this is my slow season & I can spend a few minutes to help populate to site. I am a member of a "GMC Envoy" owners forum & they force you to register to view technical posts, is this something you might consider as the site grows?? I don't mind adding my 2 cents of opinion in the technical aspects but would feel better if it were restricted to A/S owners. Just a thought...My door is open to all A/S owners.

Good, I'm going to continue improving the site look and feel to make it very American Skier centric. Unfortunately, graphic design is one of my weak(actually non-existent) areas but I'm battling through and will continue to learn and improve this site.

As far as the comment regarding the technical posts, absolutely Ron I like that idea. We could start this anytime.

How do you suggest we do it? Do you think I should start a new Topic/Section in the forum titled something like "American Skier Registered Users Only?" or do you think I should move some of our current topics so that only Registered Users can view them? Do you think that just requiring registration is enough to be able to view the "American Skiers Only" forums or should we require something else in addition?

I really want to strive to make this the "go to place" for American Skier boat enthusiasts. Ideally I'd like to get everyone who owns (or is a fan of American Skier boats) an American Skier, a computer, and internet connection on this site.

Ron, when I first started learning about American Skiers and their brand I never thought I would be carrying on conversations with people who were directly involved with the engineering of these boats. The content you guys provide, your knowledge, and your overall input is very valuable and we all appreciate it.

I like the community feel of the American Skier as well. I grew up on Logan Martin lake in Alabama and was drawn to the competition ski boats by the loud exhaust and big letters on the side. Later on when I purchased a few nautiques (all used of course) I started to meet more inboard ski boat owners and for the most part the people seemed to be ...well, just good folks. People you could be around with your kids and not have to worry about what they are seeing or hearing for the most part. I stepped into the American Skier by luck and have fond memories of seeing (and hearing) one on the lake back in the 80's.
I think this is a great opportunity for us enthiusiast (American Skier) to be part of our own group and pass along info or just talk junk. Even though there is another inboard enthusiast site out there that is going strong, I have never seen Mr. Meloon on there helping out regular folks with tech problems. Mr. Tanis you must really love these boats to this day. My hats off to you and your love of the boats you built.

I Appreciate the kind words, those who know me have said I bleed American Skier, and yes there is a certain passion for the boats, and yes I do enjoy streching my memory when someone needs to keep an old boat running & they ask an "off the wall" question. My little brother does a good job of helping out, he's a lot more computer literate than I am.
Tech. registration: I don't think a real qualification is required, just register with the site to access certain areas, I know others are watching this & don't want to register because they are affiliated with other boat companies. Or maybe we could do a "pay-per-view" kind of thing & I could charge by the question?? just kidding (better not let my wife read this post)
