Indmar Headers
« on: February 20, 2010, 09:59:40 AM »
Hello all.  Thanks for starting such a wonderful site for such superb boats.  I am the proud owner of a 1986 Barefoot Skier.  The boat is powered by an Indmar 350 Chevy.  The only problem with the driveline is that I have a water leak in one of the headers.  I have searched and searched to find replacement headers, but the only ones I have found are the custom made variety.  $$$$  I was wondering if anyone here knows of a good replacement header for this boat?  I have stolen a picture from this site to illustrate my header configuration.  (I haven't had time to take a picture of my own yet)  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your probably asking for the wrong parts, Marine headers are much like automotive headers but are double walled stainless tubing and usually very expensive. What you have is a cast marine exhaust manifold, typically available in either aluminum or cast iron (rare is the old Commander stainless steel) and typically available in the center high rise style or low or "log" style as in the picture you have. None of them are cheap, check ebay?? if you come up empty give me a shout & I will find something for you.

Try Brandon...  He's on here and is parting out his ENTIRE AMSkier...  His prices are very reasonable.  He may have the headers your looking for along with a lot of other equipment / parts your sure to need  - worth a shot!

Thanks for the advertising Joel!  I have a set of PCM exhaust manifolds and risers.  In pretty good shape, might need riser gaskets which I think I have a set.  These are not the same as the picture, although I think they will work, but you will need longer 3" hoses to the mufflers.  Let me know if you are interseted and I will pull them off and get a few pictures.  Also, if the mufflers are right at the transmission sides, I have brand new 3" on the ends now that should be long enough.

Brandon,

I would be very interested in your manifolds.  Could you send me some installed pics and pricing info?

Thanks,
Brian

I replaced both risers last season. lots of web sites for parts ,if i remember correctly J.A. chamberlain has a full afterfactory line of manifolds and risers although i dont know about log style but my risers were about $120.00  each including shipping. make sure to order the gasket kit too (making your own gasket doesnt work well and can cause engine damage)

Here are the pictures of the manifolds and riser set I have.  They have only been used in fresh water, inland lakes.  Still look to be in good shape, will sell as a set with manifolds and risers for left and right sides.  I don't know who would have the cheapest shipping, but shipping will be added at whatever the cost is.  I will sell them for $300.00 plus shipping for the set.  (May need to add $20 depending how they need to be packaged/crated for shipping.)  Let me know.

brandons price is looks good  even after factory parts would run you about $500.00 plus tax and shipping. If he doesnt have the gasket kit you can order it from www.marineexaustmanifolds.com or most Napa auto parts stores can order P.C.M. original parts

Brandon,

I appreciate the pictures.  I think I will hold off for now.  I would really like to find a polished aluminum set (log or riser style).  If my search comes up empty, I will let you know.  Thanks again for the info.

No problem.  You can try to find a jetboat website, some that didn't have zoomies or headers used the log style manifolds.  Be prepared to pay around $1000 or more for a good used set.
