New Engines for MasterCrafts
« on: November 30, 2010, 03:07:12 PM »
In a Press Release today MasterCraft announced the switch from Indmar to Ilmor engines beginning with the 2012 models. Ilmor has been building go-fast type engines for the marine industry for a few years, no GM engines that I am aware of. They are known more for their Indy race motors, gee do you you think it could have something with Roger Penski owning a big chunk of both companies???

That High HP engine is being sold primarily to Left coast jet boats, a little pricy for ski boats.

Ron,

Here's a quote from the press release on the block:

"Positive response to Ilmor’s products and customer service paved the way for product expansion.  In 2010, Ilmor opened its state-of-the-art 50,000 square foot marine engine assembly and test facility in Mooresville, NC, committed to developing and building a new series of inboard GM-based V8 engines for its first manufacturing partner, MasterCraft Boat Company."

I see this as a company that is bringing "Revolutionary" technology and performance to the market.  If it were me I would skip on the first year and wait for them to work out the performance bugs on the new model engines.  It will benefit the ski/wakeboard industry to get another competitor in the market.  PCM has been fading out with Correct Craft for years and Indmar has been a bit stale since coming out with the MCX.  Don't get me wrong, I love my MCX, but the ski/wakeboard engine industry has been getting back on it's heals the past few years.
