back seat board
« on: November 13, 2010, 07:55:35 AM »
I know there used to be a board behind my back seat. I kind of know how it fit there, it just slides up underneath the lip on the back of the boat. What does it look like? anyone have any shots? How is it held in place?

Mine had one at one time or another, but it was rotten and was discarded Im guessing. I dont have a pattern and I dont think you would want to screw it solid.... cause then it would be hard to remove.

Any suggestions. Id like to work on it sometime pretty soon. Thanks,

Mike

Mike, mine is actually THREE boards.  The port & stbd are screwed in along with the upper back seat cushions / combing.  The center seat sets on notched wooden supports screwed into the bases of the port/stbd seats and is removable along with the center back seat cushion held against the back fiberglass combing with velcro.  The port & stbd seats remain (they're small but functional).  Ron tells me this was an original set up made for skiing so you dont have to remove all the back seat - and I gotta say its pretty damn convenient.  The center floor comes out along with the center section of backboard.  The backboard fits snugly between the two port/stbd sideboards with the top sliding up between the back edge of the fiberglass & two (port & stbd) metal supports that hold it into place.  Its very nice to be able to pull out the center sections of EVERYTHING when its time to work on the rudder, grease the rudder controls, exhaust piping, packing gland, etc..  I'll see if I have pics of the entire set up and post them.

Cool man thanks, My seat is 2 parts, the seat and the back. My back board was once 1 solid part but no longer exists...... Some pics might very well help me, even if I have to modify what I see to work for me.

The one piece back board "pressed" into place setting the top first between the deck and (2) aluminum "fingers" that hang down. Look for these 2 aluminum "fingers" I think 1/4" flat bar was used 1" wide, 3-4" long. There should be an exposed screw head in the deck where they are attached & adjusted. Once the board is started into the top then push the bottom of the board back toward the fuel tank until it stops against a block. These were carpeted resin saturated plywood back boards around your model years & prior. If your is lost & none is available to pattern from start by using cardboard to make a pattern from.

Already got my pattern from cardboard thanks.... but the backing blocks on the floor I did not know about. Also don't have the fingers but I know what you are talking about. Believe ill make my blocks out of some aluminum ....... does the board follow the slight angle of the back of the boat ordoes it run strait up and down.

It would follow the angle of the deck, aluminum or plastic would both work as stops.
