First Post have a couple questions!
« on: August 25, 2015, 08:31:52 AM »
Hey guys im glad I was able to join this site. I have a couple questions. First I am looking at a 1994 tbx with 900 hrs for under 5k. Is this a good boat and a good deal? The boat looks clean and to be in pretty good shape. Second is I have read that the passenger seats turn around and face forward is this the case? If this is correct it would be awesome because my GF gets sick riding backwards. Thanks in advance for the help and Im glad to be apart of this forum.

My general rule is any A/S that looks good, runs well, has usable upholstery, and a usable trailer is worth 5K. A fully restored TBX like this should be worth 15-20K as its still a great slalom training boat with new contemporaries running 70K+  Some of these boats made by Wesmar (1994-5) did have a reversible front passenger seat, however most preferred the fixed seat with more storage under the deck. As for the girlfriend teach her to be the driver.

Hey thanks for the response. Im not sure about the seat and I do plan on teaching her to drive too. The boat looks good and the guy says it does not have any problems. Water ski magazine rated it well in 1994 so I hope the slalom wake is actually good like it says. The guy moved away 4 hours from where he stores it so he is just wanting it gone so he is able to do under 5k. I am going to ski it before I buy it and if I do I will post pics so you guys can see it.

If you can ski behind it its worth 5k. Unless the seller has receipts for recent service plan on spending for a compete tune up, fluids,  filters changed, pump impeller and a real shaft alignment. Then service the trailer bearings, brakes etc. Most boats that come in here to my shop with a story like you describe will need these things done, then simply stay on top of the maint. and the boat will serve you well.

Awesome thats the plan is to get all that stuff done over the winter time off and not even use the boat for the rest of this season.

I may have to recuse myself from commenting on this boat if you are using the WaterSki Magazine buyers guide. (I was the test/writer around that time)

The buyers guide is about all the information I can find on this boat for 1994. I hope it makes a good slalom wake like it says in that write up.

Well I just bought the boat I will post some pictures of it when I get home. The boat ran good. I need to get a new steering cable for it because it was a little tough to turn. Any body any idea where or what model they are so that I can buy one. This is my first boat so I am pretty excited.

When people run down to the lake to see what is making that noise, you've succeeded.

I looked through it under the american skier section and I did not see any steering cables. I will look more and other sites as well. Thanks

http://www.skiboatpartsonline.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=25_84&product_id=116

This boat model year was made by WESMAR and they did use a few rack steering systems, 95% of all A/S boats used the teleflex rotary system as in the link above.

Hey thanks after I posted that I went and looked again and realized that there are alot more parts in the overall boat section and not just the american skier section before. I will be looking at my steering cable today to try to determine what it is.
