2000 American Skier TBX
« on: December 30, 2014, 11:25:26 AM »
Hello,

I have a line on a 2000 American Skier TBX, pictures attached. The interior has a few rips, the floor feels solid, engine has what I believe to be approximately 1000 hours on it.

I have never owned an American Skier, but I love to slalom ski and barefoot as do my children. He's asking $7500 in its current condition, not sure what these are valued at given the condition and hours. I'd be willing to put some time into it if I can get a few good years out of it. Also can I attach a boom to this boat?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

The price is a bargain, is the 1000 hrs since new or since the engine was changed?

Thanks for the reply Ron.

According to the tag on the motor (last picture attached) this motor was new in 2007 and the roughly 1000 hours has been put on since then.

The boat needs some repair work in the interior, many deep scratches on the exterior and the platform needs to be replaced. The trailer is all there but quite rusted in places and needs some TLC.

What would this boat be worth if it were in near perfect or very good condition? Is it worth buying and putting the money into $2000 in repairs?

Thanks again.
Tom

Clean good running 2000 models should bring 9-12K  A 1000 hours since 2007 is way above average. I typically use 50 hrs per year for recreation use, 100 hrs per year for avid skiers, and much above that goes into pro-use, and above 300 hrs per year ski school use. I would inquire why the engine was replaced, I would also look hard at the trailer, modern trailers use steel tube for the chassis and they will rust from the inside out, I had a Mastercraft in the shop a couple years ago and the paint was holding the trailer together! When the customer backed his trailer into the shop I watched the whole chassis twist & flex. ( he wanted me to go over the whole rig before he went on a long road trip) I really can't comment of the true value after repairs are made without seeing the boat in person, anytime a motor is replaced and the new motor already has that many hours on it make me suspect and want to look deeper to what else is being hidden.

Although I don't know for sure I suspect that the boat was used as a tow boat for a local Show Ski team which may account for many of the hours.

I certainly like the boat and from what I have read I believe that it would be an ideal ski and barefoot boat, exactly what I am looking for. I previously owned an '89 22ft Mastercraft, I am just looking for something smaller, faster and more agile.

Since I know the current owner (who bought it second hand from someone else and really doesn't know much about the boats history) I may take it to a local shop that I work with and have them look it over for me.

Thanks again

Since you mentioned barefooting, you will want to confirm what HP the motor is that was put in there, the OEm engine was a 320HP TBI motor with aluminum exhaust and alum. ZF transmission with 3 1/2" exhaust tubes with crossover & those boats ran 45-46mph
