automatic bilge pumps
« on: April 27, 2014, 09:13:17 PM »
Hi guys,

I am looking to replace my current manual/float style bilge pump set up with the newer Rule 500 auto sense unit.

I have read both good and bad reviews.

Thoughts ?

Thanks

Matt.

I had one of these Rule 500 auto sensing pumps in my old boat (smallish outboard runabout).  It seemed to be reliable but I also kept a clean bilge so no trouble with debris clogging it. You can hear it run every 2 minutes looking for resistance on the impeller.  I used a switch as well so I could turn it completely off or force it to run on demand by toggling the switch, but it will still auto-shut off if the impeller drops below its resistance threshold.

For the size of our Skiers I don't know that I'd go that small - personally I like the Rule-mate 1500 with internal float switch.
