New owner
« on: October 19, 2013, 06:19:41 PM »
just bought a 1991 Advance Sport.  The previous owner took pretty good care of it.  It is having some new upholstery installed and it has some electrical that needs to be repaired.  Other than that it is a nice boat.  I am going to need to repair or replace the tach, hour meter and the running lights.  I'm not sure how to do this, but I am hoping you folks will have some advice for me.
Thanks to Ron T for the new USCG sticker

Welcome aboard! I personally have never heard of repair for any of the gauges you asked about, not to say its not out there. I replaced mine. As far as the running lights, what is your question? Are you trying to replace bulbs, entire housings, wiring? Depending on how far you go the feedback will be different. In your running lights case my personal opinion is to replace as well, but that's me. Finding (OEM) or original style lights may be a little difficult but Im sure Ron will chime in and let you know if he has anything comparable.

Post up specific questions and youll get plenty of answers around here!!!

Gages are cheaper to replace than repair, (remove the drivers seat & base to work under there) and I like to replace any lights with LEDs (yes they are available in USCG approved applications)

Thanks for the info. I will be looking at the lights and guages when the boat returns from the upholestary place. Hopefully before the snow flies.

Just picked up the boat from the upholstery place.  They did a great job.  It really improves the look of the interior.  Now on to the lights and gauges............

Welcome.

Nicely done upholstery. Looks great as does the boat.
When people run down to the lake to see what is making that noise, you've succeeded.

I got the rear seat from the previous owner today.  It is all dry rotted from being stored many years in Florida. it is not usable, but I can use it as a template to build a new seat.  Thrilled to have it! :D

I just picked up the newly built rear seat. It cost me $550 to have built from scratch. It really improves the look of the boat. Now I'm spending a week in Maine at Long Lake playing with the boat.
