Independence Day 2013! '86 American Skier
« on: July 10, 2013, 07:38:08 PM »
Just thought I would upload some pictures of my weekend. It started out very frustratingly, but turned out pretty well thanks to Dan.  I'm glad I took Thursday through Sunday off, because it took that long to get everything going properly. Changing out broken impellers in 105 degree heat will take it's toll on one's patience. That said, it turned out to be a pretty good weekend.

First is the south entrance to my local lake. It's down 22 feet (yes, that's the boat way down there). I have another lake I like way better, but it's a 3 hour drive verses the one and half our drive to this one.

Second is the campsite, where I spent a couple of days cursing and sweating and drinking.

Third is finally out on the water with my friends. They beached the Glastron (Whiskey Tango), while I tied up the A/S.

Fourth is the tied up A/S. I get really nervous about tying it up any where near the shore.

The old girl performed really well this weekend after the initial problems. We skied, wakeboarded, tubed, and even taught my cousins to knee board. Having the swim platform and no worries about getting into the propeller really made teaching the kids a thousand times easier. We would just hang out the back and idle around until they felt comfortable. Something you cannot do on a high riding I/O. It was great.

I wish I had got some in motion shots, but we were all having too much fun. I will net weekend!

Daximus,

Nice pics and glad to hear that everything worked out well for your weekend.  Boy, that's a lot of trees around the ramp.  What lake is that, down 23 ft and still usable??

Cedar Bluff in Wakeeney County Kansas. We are having a terrible drought here in Kansas, have been for the last few years. We have very few natural lakes, this one get's drained to help provide water to a couple of small towns (reservoir). The combination of no rain, and the towns pulling water out has made it miserable. You are seeing the south boat ramp...next in line to close if we drop any more water. Originally I think we had 5 ramps, only two remain.

To get out into the open from this ramp entails navigating a 40 foot run about 8 feet wide with trees on either side. Most of us get going, turn of the motor and coast through to prevent prop damage. The lake is still pretty big and very nice once out in the open...but launching is a nail biter in an inboard.

Here is another shot of the open. This is the narrow view, it's a couple miles long the other way.

My favorite lake is Lake Wilson in Russell County Kansas. It's at full level since the water is a wee bit salty, thus they don't drain it for anything.

Pray for rain, or imma have to move, lol!

Just the opposite in Missiouri, too much rain.  Glad your boat is up in running.  We, as well just recently bought an A.S, a 1988 Advance.  The boat sat in a heated garage unused for 8 years.  We had our issues getting it up and running this spring.  The folks and info posted on this site were super helpfull.  The boat now runs great and is really quite the machine.  For sure the best $6000 I ever spent on a boat.

That's what my mom says. She lives in Summerfield (from Rolla drive North 'till you hear banjos, lol). Glad you're happy with your boat, I too am very please. Old girl is built like a tank. In a year I'll have it in tip top shape.

The folks on this site are very helpful, can't thank them enough.
