Sea Dek
« on: May 30, 2013, 09:02:15 AM »
Most of you know what I have dont to my boat. I really like the way it has turned out (and its still a project believe me).

I like the carpet I installed but I just want something different. Sea Dek has a teak style matt that Ive seen in a few offshore boats here in FLA. I love the look and the feel of the stuff. Im thinking about redoing my floor (the entire floor and possibly the inside hull sides) with this stuff. I dont know what it is about it, I just like the look of it alot better than I like carpet.

I know one of the members here used wood ((cypress I believe)) for his floor and that looked cool, but I think this stuff would be very little hassle and would look great to boot, also think it feels great on the feet!

Any opinions on this stuff. Ive only been up and close to it short periods. Seems really nice, I just wonder how it holds up.......

I've only seen it on an older Volante, looked neat but labor intensive. There is a teak looking product out there made from ground cork that is available in sheet form with the black rubber lines already in it, would have to do some searching who made it.

I know that Correct Craft is using that stuff on the fiberglass swim platforms on their new boats. It really looks pretty good and is kinda spongy when you step on it.
When people run down to the lake to see what is making that noise, you've succeeded.

I set up "Ship Shape TV" on my DVR and it recorded a session on Sea Dek. The teak mimic floor looks great. That episode went through the measurement, fabrication and installation. They tend to re-run all these episodes a bunch if you have a DVR..

I actually got a few samples from them. I looks awesome but my issue is they cant make a section big enough to do my whole floor, it would have to be butted up to itself. I dont like that. If Im going to spend the money I want it to run the entire length of my floor.

Getting a sample from a company called nuteak or nuteek (cant remember) there stuff can go entire length of floor which is what I want. its also PVC material and is waranteed for 5 years and sea dek is only 1. Sea Dek is a foam like material, I bet it would feel great on the feet..... I just dont want 4 seperate sections on my floor. I think that would look stupid.

How does this stuff drain?   Rubber-backed carpet is bad enough...  the last thing you want is a wet sponge (that holds water) laying on top of your brand new flooring...  especially FRESH water (wood doesn't like fresh water - makes it rot - whereas SALT water tends to pickle it).  The only good news about salt water   ;)

Let me know what you guys find out...  I'm way over due for new SOMETHING...  My carpet was pieced together with a seam port to stbd at the front of the motorbox / pylon...   and its pretty much done.

Well, Im already out of the market for Sea Dek due to the fact it cant be solid from front to rear........ Im looking for a sample in the mail from NuTeak........ looks really cool, its pvc, Ive seen it on videos submerged in oil, red wine, and other nasties and nothing stains if (or so they claim).

I am impressed with the sea dek and if I could put it in and make it look the way I want I would buy it, it just wont fit the application, the picture I have in my head.
