windshield alteration
« on: February 13, 2013, 06:36:02 PM »
i have a 1991 legend and i have pulled the windshield to redo the seal at the base of it and also touch up some of the paint scratches and scuffs. Now that i have it off and somewhat apart i had the idea of changing the two piece centre panel with the opening glass to a single pane from top to bottom of the windshield, my question to some of the guys with more boat building experience, would there be and windshield stiffness/structural or any unforeseen issues with removing the centre metal piece in that panel? and my knees thank you Ron T for the seat sliders last season to replace the seized almost all the way forward ones i bought the boat with.

I just took in another "rescue project" a '92 legend & there are many things that WESMAR did that are still new to me, this one has a center section that slides out! The windshield was made by Aldon which is now out of business. The curved windshield "corners" must be secured properly, the center section can be removed, hinged or anything else you dare to do. The same basic components are used in the Volante open bow with a hinging  center section. BEWARE, A MISTAKE & A MISPLACED SCREW THAT CONTACTS GLASS WILL CAUSE A SHATTERED WINDSHIELD.
