Hit a Rock, Cracked the Hull!
« on: August 27, 2012, 02:56:49 PM »
Well not me exactly, I let a friend use the boat and she hit the rock.  Anyway, the front skeg hit the rock and pushed it up into the hull enough to crack the figerglass all the way through.  Water now seeps in.  The problem is the location of the leading skeg, under the floor and in front of the pylon brace.  The repair shop wants to pull out the engine, pull out the engine/pylon mounting box, and cut out the floor in order to get at the crack.  I thought he could just pull the floor around and in front of the pylon.
My question is this; is he right or is this excessive labor?

Not sure which model you have, but if it's an Advance what you need is the in-floor ice chest. My '88 had the exact same problem & the proper repairs need access to the inside. Removing the engine & pylon will not do the job, DO NOT remove the alum. motor mount. What you need is an access hole in the floor between the pylon & passenger L seat base. This can be done, then install the flush in-floor ice chest to cover the access hole & the benefit is an added cooler. What you need is a boat surgeon not a boat doctor.

(I may not be available for the next few days as Isaac passes overhead)

I have a 1992 Legend.  Will the ice chest fit?

PS  Good luck during the hurricane!
