Leaf Stains: What will get this off?
« on: August 15, 2012, 10:50:43 AM »
Took the boat to the lake, and got home late.  Boat sat uncovered overnight and thru out next day.  Got around to washing and getting it ready for storage, and discovered that Maple Leafs from the trees that line my drive had landed on several places on my "White" interior, and on the hull cap itself.  These things has stained both the interior and the gelcoat.  I can't find anything that will get it off.  Actually.......anything that will even partially remove it.  HELP!

I've tried :

Westley's Bleach White
409
Oxiclean
Windex
Cleaner / Wax on the gel-coat
Greased Lighting

Any ideas on this?      Anybody else have this problem?

Westley's Bleach White

acetone(?)

Dan T

found this on google search

If you want to remove stains from fibreglass us a product called FSR (Fibreglass Stain Remover) available at West Marine and other outlets. It is easy to use....just put it on the stain with a wet rag and WAIT, no rubbing....it will raise the stain by itself with out damaging the gelcoat. After 20-30 minutes wipe up. If the entire stain is not gone....repeat.

Thanks Dan,

I will pick some of that up from West Marine.  The major stains is on the seats.  Westley's did not even touch it!  I have not tried "Straight Bleach" but that about what Westley's is with blue tint.

I got some tough stains out of my new white interior with a "magic eraser" found near Pine Sol and stuff. It is a little abrasive on the gel (read- I had to re-wax afterwards) but it got stains off that too.

Small nylon brush and Babe's seat soap plus seat saver. www.babesboats.com It will take a few applications but AI have been able to remove some pretty stubborn stains that nothing else would touch.  This stuff seem to remove almost everything.  The other suggestion but its very hard on the padding on the back of the vinyl is Acetone.
