Usually no news is good news, but in my opinion not so much in this case. Id like to hear some talk about this as well. I was put under the impression that it was time to slow my roll as far as location was concerned so I have been sitting back waiting to check out what others opinions and options would be. Just havent seen much yet.

Love to hear of some more options or ideas.

Smitty wrote me back in Sept.  He was waiting on info from the 2 or 3 marinas in Indiana.  Havent heard anything since, but I'm sure he'll chime in   :)

So here is the latest...

I heard  back from the Fourwinds on Lake Monroe in Bloomington, IN.

Rates
  • $184 Friday and Saturday nights
  • $134 for Sunday nights and $108 for week nights

Group rates are only available Sunday through Thursday.  This is for a Garden Side (not facing the lake) room which is a Double bed.

I'm going to check on other locations around Bloomington for additional information.  Stay tuned...

This would be the best bang for your buck...

Lake Monroe Village.  It's about 2 miles from the closest launch ramp which is at the Fourwinds.  No immediate access to the lake, but it's a great facility with plenty of parking for boats and campers.

Right now it looks like they have cabin rentals (6 people) for $100 a night and smaller cabins for $90 a night.

Yeah, Im not totally against anything, but $370 for 2 nights and I dont even get to look at the lake is a bit of a tall order for me. Especially since its so far away. Cut that price in half and Im looking at a couple hundred bucks toward gas in the truck or the boat which would help alot.

The second Idea isnt a bad one, but Im not sure how everyone will feel about having to haul to the lake on a daily basis.........

Need to hear some others' thoughts...  Everyone please chime in!!

No matter where we look a nice resort / locale is not going to be cheap.

Fourwinds:  From what I understand the Fourwinds has EVERYTHING and then some!!  A real "Resort"  :)  Our wives & kids ( you know those people we drag to these things ;) will have a variety of recreational activities including a beach, pool, etc...   The $108 weeknight price is right up my alley as I plan on making a multi-day vacation out of it.  I think MOST of us will want this to be on a weekend because of work, but during the week is THE time to be on the lake.  The weekender go fast boats will be gone and we'll have GLASS.  I dont care if the room faces the lake or not since I'll be spending my day on the lake or in the pool or hangin' with you guys talkin' boats  :)   The question is:  Can we swing this during the week, a Mon-Thur type thing?  If not, the Fourwinds may be cost prohibitive  :(   Something to think about & discuss...  What do you guys think?

Lake Monroe Village:  If we have to stick to a weekend, then this might be a good place.  This location appears to be more rustic, a lot less ammenities, etc.  I know my wife & kids will KILL me if we put the boat in at the exotic Fourwinds and stay at "the cheap place"...  :(  No boat ramp is kind of strange...  hauling the boat 2 miles isnt a BIG deal since we'll be pulling her out & wiping her down every night, but still kind of a PITA.  But, if it saves us BIG $$ a night then WTH!   During the 1st Reunion, I left my boat tied at the dock/slip - the green lake water soaked into my old gelcoat and its a BEAR to get it out...   I dont recommend anyone leave thier boat in the water overnight for multiple days/nights.

Lets see what else Smitty comes up with...  The lake looks like a good fit  :)

I hope to be down with whatever, but time will tell more than anything. It will all depend on how close it is and how fast it gets locked down for me. The more time the better.

Guess I could just start planning on most expensive longest journey and go from there. Sounds like a little northern is where some folks are thinking.

I like the location, it seems to be central coming and the site looks beautiful on their website. I don't either want to spend money needlesly, but would spring for the resort and the proximity to activites. Thanks to those who help organize the reunion.

Well, no one has commented on here in a while so I'll wake everybody up from their PRE-Winter snooze  ;)

We need to make a decision on a location SOON!  Mike is correct about needing to finalize some plans, not only for our own purposes, but any place that is worth damn is gonna be booked up solid pretty quick.  If we wait for Spring, we just may be unable to find anyplace we like at all!!

How does everyone feel about the Fourwinds on Lake Monroe, IN (great locale @ $108 weeknight & best conditions)?
Can we do this during the week following Father's Day - Sun (arrive) for 2 or 3 nights?
Or, should we stick to Father's Day weekend, Fri (arrive) - Sun (depart) - 2 nights?

Lets get this conversation back on the front burner and get something going!!  I'd hate to wait till the last minute when everyone has made other plans or the resorts are booked up...  Example:  my Car Club already has every hotel in Traverse City, MI, booked for an entire week next Spring... Guess which weekend its on?  :(

I'm good to go for this one ( or any other place)

and Fathers Day target date has worked well so far too

I imagine I'd be down a little early and stay a little later......... like we did this year

Thanks for chiming in Dan...  This should be a good locale and I know we'd like to keep it on (or at least near) Father's Day weekend.  The reason I'm asking about a weekday event is its much cheaper... anywhere we go it'll be cheaper during the week  :)   Some of the guys will be haulin' a good distance (like we did going to TN) and I wanna throw out some options to help reduce costs...

Anybody else wanna comment?

Father's Day Weekend vs the following Weekdays?
This location vs a different location?

Lets hear from everyone so we can get this show on the road!!

Well, the biggest problem I see with it is its almost 20hrs from where I am which is a much longer commute than the 10 I was driving.....

I would bet there are some nice lakes somewhere in southern Tennessee between Knoxville and Chattanooga ??
