Windshield fun

Ok, I know the windshield thing has been discussed. How hard the glass is to get and all. But I dont have a problem with my glass (lets all cross our fingers for when I put it all back together)

I took the frame apart to powdercoat. All went smoothly, put on a small texture black coat (there was some pitting and small gouges I was trying to cover) but the plastic covers that cover the screw "galley's" did not make it off the frame without breaking.

Can I get just the plastic inserts somewhere that cover the hold down screws? If not Im going to go have some thin aluminum cut to the right height and coat it to before I install it with I dont know what yet.

The boat I'm parting someone had used black silicone to cover them.  They did a really good job, you could hardly tell it wasn't factory.  The down fall was picking all the silicone out to remove the windshield!  I think you could do it the same way (that was my plan), but cover screws with a strip of tape first.  The silicone tends to bite better to those than the frame itself.

Thanks Brandon. I think Im going to use a combo of my idea and yours. I think I am going to go with the aluminum strip and use an adhisive to hold it into place like silicone.

You dont have the two side pieces do you Brandon?

you may find some black foam insulation might work
found @ home depot etc, weather stripping about an 1" wide on 8' + roll
adhesive on one side (?)

I'm not sure what side pieces you are asking for.  I have a complete windshield, minus the screw cover strips.  The black paint shows some normal wear for an '85, but it is still all in good shape.  Dan's idea with the foam tape is another option, many of the curved windshields used a foam strip that fit into the channel to cover the screws.

I was talking about the two side screw covers. If I had one more of those I could cut 3 and it would be big enough for the front. I don't really care so much about the sides.
