Blower Vent Hose
« on: April 09, 2012, 10:18:28 AM »
Not all Blower vent hose is created equal!! I thought my replacement blower vent hose coming from my Marine Distributor & also sold through local dealers was getting cheaper every year, I was right! I have (2) ADVANCE boats in the shop being overhauled, both needing replacement hoses. I called my old Hose Mfg. & they told me everyone has gone to a 3 mil thickness vinyl vent hose to keep costs down. HOWEVER they can still make the old 10 mil 3" & 13 mil 4" hoses for special order OEM accts. Yes it cost double for triple the thickness but the cheap shxx I put in my rescue Advance last year is already showing  signs of wear after one season. If your local dealer is not selling the 10 & 13 mil  HD hose I have added it to my available parts listing page, should be in stock by the end of this week.

Last yr my flexible blower vent hose where it runs up under the engine hood came lose on a ski run and wrapped itself (inc SS wire!) around my driveshaft at the trans coupling end .  It tore off about 4' of it and took 30 mins to untangle in the hot sun floating in the lake with needlenose....

To keep this from happening again, I am going to couple a piece of thin walled PVC at the rear of the boat to the flex hose from the blower in the hold near the rudder assembly and lay it on some small rubber mounts next to the exhaust hose to run it up under the engine and engine cover ...seems like it will forego any potential mishaps like this again... will raise it a couple inches on rubber mounts so as not to suck in any water from bilge area in hold...I had trouble finding a really stable method of attaching the flex hose anyways....due to the driveshaft/exhaust/rudder cables etc....

will post a pic when done...

Some of the "passenger boats" I inspected as a USCG Marine Inspector used the cheap white dryer vent hose - it typically doesnt hold up too well to the oil, water, vibration, heat mixture in confined spaces.   We ALWAYS made them replace it - especially if it was forced ventilation.

Joel, I had been buying USCG approved vent hose available in white or black & its getting really thin which is why I inquired with the hose Mfg. to find out whats going on. If you would at least get on your skateboard & roll to the reunion i will bring you a personal sample, I'll even let you sleep in my boat. 8)

Ron,  Really wish I could...  This is really depressing  :(  The tax man cometh and the savings acct is wiped.   Although I do appreciate the offer to sleep on your boat   ;D

On the subject of vent hose...  as with all marine parts - you get what you pay for...   And as time goes by it gets hard to find quality parts no matter the cost.

I am bringing about 30ft of extra heavy duty hose that I used in my boat. I only needed about 20ft but could only get it in 50ft sections.  The only downside to it is the wire inside is not stainless but the outside is very heavy compaired to the other stuff on the market.    BJ
