New member possibly buy a 91 legend
« on: March 28, 2012, 04:53:19 PM »
Hi im a new member but not new with inboards grew up with malibus and mastercrafts but I dont know much about american skiers. Im looking at a 1992 legend it has righy at 400 hours on the 351 it also has velvet drive. Gel coat is in good shape and so is the trailer. Interior is ok small nicks here and there mainly dirty. Boat has a vety small soft spot in rear in front of back seat might be fiberglass seperating from plywood idk. Is 6500 a fair price for this boat?

Pics would help allot!!!   Not allot of hours IF the hour meter was always hooked up...  Might want to do a compression test & leak down to see if the pistons/cylinders are good.  Is the soft spot in the center of the floor as that section usually is removable and easily fixed.

Good luck!

Looks like a fine boat, as for the brand, you won't find anybody on this site that does not believe that an AM skier is as good or better than the top ski boats in the world. Quite frankly because it is.
Don't kid yourself about the floor being an easy fix. I thought the same thing about my 85 Advance this past fall. I had a soft spot in the same location and thought the same thing, patch it, replace the carpet, and I'm good to go.
Under that floor is floatation Foam, and on a 23 year old boat you can bet it is water logged. A common problem with ALL ski boats is this, over the years it Collects condensation and becomes vey heavy. You would be doing yourself a huge injustice by just patching that spot.
However, if you are handy, with the support of members on this site, this is a project you can do yourself, for 1000.00 or less. That being said, I would still consider this a good purchase. Even if you have to put 3500.00 into it you would have like new boat for 10,000, and with the price of new boats today, you can't go wrong with that.
   Good luck, Keith

Hope she runs as good as she looks!   Very nice   ;D  Post some pics of the engine, prop, shaft, under the removable center floors where the through-hulls (water intake & shaft log/seal) are located...   It should be as sweet looking as the exterior / interior if they kept it looking this good   8)   Nice find and congratulations!!!
