Just a quick thought after getting off the phone with Buchanan's, when you guys make reservations make sure to reserve a slip as well! I believe its complimentary with some of the bigger cabins, but I'd verify.

You can count us in...would NEVER want to have to admit to missing the first American Skier Reunion.

...I see that the resort/lodges do not allow pets.  We've got a Whippet that refuses to be left behind.  Anyone know of any pet-friendly, local accommodations?

whippet really we have a whippet too she's brindle and over 40 lbs!

Alright, it appears there is a date set. A place set. Just so there is no question I think we should make a new thread, something like " Reunion, this date, this place" and have a place for only reunion details to be posted with no clutter. Like who is going of course, but also how many with each group, if any of us might want to hook up for a bigger and cheaper place, so on and so forth.

Phil? Just a thought

Sounds like a good idea...  Maybe a "sticky" including the link to Buchanans Resort, etc...

So far I count FIVE including Ron T...  So far so good!

Phil, do you or one of the Administrators have a way of sending a mass email to everyone on the AM Skier board concerning this event???  I know a lot of people dont visit here very often during the "off season"....  Maybe a heads up is in order so they dont miss out...

To quote Pink Floyd:   "Is there anybody...  out there!?!?!?"   Lets rally the troops if at all possible   :)

Guys, I was making my reservations at the Resort and they only have two styles of accomodations available - the waterfront suite ($170) & the corporate suite ($190) per night...  Apparently, there is a wedding & a family reunion happening.  I was caught off-guard by this info since we budgeted a standard cottage price.  I'll have to touch base with "the boss" to see if we can swing that + plus gas for a 1200 mile round trip.  Some of you may have the same problem so I thought I'd bring it to your attention.  I didnt check on other available dates (yet) - wanted to see what everyone's reactions were to the lack of available accomodations.

I spoke with a lady named "Anita".  I told her I'd get back with her soon...    :-\

Same here but anything before the 4th of July weekend would be best - a lot more crowds, etc, during & after that weekend...

Is it too late to change the dates to the following weekend - June 17th - 19th - if they have more accomodations available???  I dont mean to be a cheapskate, but I'm gonna have to do a LOT of kissing up to get the wifey to go for that kinda cash outlay...  She's looking at a 4 day cruise (for four) @ $800...  The ladies love those damn cruises....  I'd rather boat & ski   :)

I'll call Buchanans to see whats available (if y'all are agreeable)...

Buchanan's office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  (better than Banker's Hours)...  I called & wrote them requesting information on available accomodations for approx 10 standard and/or deluxe cabins.  I tried to play it up that this is the FIRST of what we hope to be an ANNUAL event (preferably at thier location) to try & sweeten the pot...  They probably have more business than they know what to do with, but I'll try to see what I can dig up for us...

How many confirmed attendees do we have now???  SIX or is it more???  Let me know!!!

Btw,  My cell phone # is  (614) 886-3511.   Call me if anyone would like to discuss or has ideas to make this a great weekend  :)

Thanks,

Current Situation at Buchanans Resort:

June 10th weekend is booked except for the waterfront suites (pretty expensive).
June 18th weekend:  Four Standard Cottages, One Deluxe Cottage & all Motel Rooms available (Waterfront Suites are last to go).
July 8th weekend:  Four Standard Cottages, Two Deluxe Cottages & all Motel Rooms still available (Waterfront Suites are last to go).

Mooring:  Covered slips with electricity @ $14 a night (not bad especially if we have a lot of rain, bilge pumps, etc... ) - I didnt ask about trailer parking but that typically costs a few bucks a day.

Note:  Some accomodations MAY not be available on Friday night, but the Motel Rooms are wide open so you can stay there the first night & switch to a cottage the following day.  She wasnt very clear as to why this could/would happen.  I'm sure you all know how to make reservations & verify your accomodations including times / dates of arrival/departure.

Recommendations:

Weekend of June 18th would be my first pick since its two weeks before July 4th Weekend (BUSY)...  July 8th is running second because its right after 4th of July and some people may find it harder to attend (competing family functions / schedules, etc).  Either weekend works for me!!

Needless to say, the sooner we make reservations the better our chances of getting what we need - cottages for all three nights (Fri / Sat / Sun) or just two (Sat / Sun) your choice - I'm staying Fri, Sat & Sun (departing on Monday).   We'll need to decide which weekend we'd like SOON and make reservations ASAP... unless we book as a GROUP (which means someone has to front the $$ on a credit card).   Any volunteers...   ;D   I told the nice lady that I would get a consensus from you all and call her back as soon as possible.  She seemed very interested in an AM Skier reunion at thier facility.

Let me know - SOON!!!!!

We're still in, regardless of the weekend.  Not too sure about accommodations yet with the aforementioned Whippet situation but, we'll be there, somewhere.

Phil,

Please send an email to all members asking if they can make the 1st Annual Reunion at Buchanans Resort on KY Lake (in North Central TN).  Copy my latest post (above) & the link to Buchanans Resort.  Title the new sticky "1st Annual AM Skier Reunion - June or July 2011".  Ask for all positive response/notifications (YESs) to be given via the new "sticky" post.  THEY NEED TO RESPOND ASAP!!!

I'm sure alot of our members dont know about this since its been brewing in the off-season and probably havent been on the AM Skier site.  Were shooting for one of the two weekends listed above and whichever fits the most people wins so we need to know who's coming and approx how many days NOW!!!  Once I get a concensus I'll post the results on the new sticky and give the Resort a heads up on approx # of people attending.

EACH MEMBER WILL HAVE TO MAKE THIER OWN RESERVATIONS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ONCE THE RESULTS ARE IN...  It is first come / first served.

We'll get this worked out better next year, try to locate a few sponsors, door prizes, etc, but first we need to show our members and the resort were a serious bunch who are committed to having this event, but MOSTLY having a great time with our fellow AM Skier members at a really nice location  :)

Thanks,

Joel
