Depth Finder

What are you guys using for depth finders? Any really good ones out there? Any I should stay away from?

I don't recall who makes them, but the ones with the water and air temperature are nice to have.  Don't know why because the temperature won't stop us, I guess just lets us know how dedicated ( or dumb) we are.

I have looked alot at the hummingbird model, but wanted to get any opinions on any of them good or bad.

I think I am going to give the hummingbird model a try. Its right at a hundred bucks and has the Puck that goes in the bottom of the boat instead of mounting on the outside of the transom. I'm still not in the water with the boat yet so I could be swayed.  But I think that's the way I'm gonna go unless I hear something amazing about something else

I'm half tempted to splurge and go for the Garmin GMI 10.  That thing is sweet!!

So which depth finder should a guy go with.  I just spent $1600.00 replacing all the under water gear on my boat.  And that's with me wheeling and dealing for a week and installing the parts my self.

Still up in the air for me. My boat isn't in the water yet, complete rehab still ongoing.

I think I'm going to order the Hawkeye D10D or the Faria.

I got the Norcross Hawkeye D10DX.  Now to install.  Easier with older boats.  The newer ones didn't have any 2" holes.  Wish I could just take out the clock and stick this in.

I just installed the Hawkeye D10 with Epoxy In-Hull transponder.  It did great and works good.

Exactly where did you expoxy the transponder in the bilge?

I just got the humminbird. Ill keep you up to date on how she goes. I should be in the water in a week or two.

I epoxied it just right of where the drive shaft goes through the hull. I read online some tricks to determine best location.  Hang over side of boat to get accurate depth then put in a plastic bag of water to move around in hull of boat to determine location. Must put away from supports, fins, shaft, etc.  When you find best place put Vaseline on bottom of transponder and try to duck tape in place. This way you can drive boat to make sure no wash affects it. I then let hull dry good and used 2 part slow cure epoxy purchased from Hawkeye. Hope that helps.
