how to buy skis?

Alright,  all my life I've been a kneeboard man, sometimes tubes and wakeboards...... I'm looking to get a set of skis for myself and the wife to enjoy, but I have no idea how to size them up or know if what I'm buying is what I'm needing.

I am not however looking for a $400 pair of trick skis or anything to that effect.

Can anyone throw me a bone here with any suggestions on what to look for?

Check out Overtons.com, U can pick up a pair of Connelly combo skis for around 160 bucks. They usually tell you the weight limit of the ski. I think the longer the ski the more weight but like I said they should give you that info on the ski description. They also have adjustable bindings so multiple people can use them.

I was thinking more along the lines of used, like play it again sports or something. That's why I was wondering.  I'm guessing used wont tell you weight or anything.

Mike,

It all depends upon how much you weigh.  Look at Overtons for examples & length of ski for your weight - longer = more weight.   Find the length that works for your weight, then go shopping at SkiItAgain.com or some other used boating equipment store.

I have a set of Connelly combo skis (21 years) and they are fine beginner skis @ 68" and work well for beginners & adults.  My 11 yr old son & 15 yr old daughter both use the Slalom ski from this set, but the pair should be long enough for your needs.

Learn to barefoot behind your barefoot skier and not worry about skis

There will be at least one if not TWO barefoot booms at the 2nd Annual Reunion....  Other than that, if your not into KILLING YOURSELVES... try Ski-It-Again.Com  or as most would have you do - EBay or Craigslist  :)   Dual skis at 68" should do the trick - if your just beginning dont worry about high end equipment.   You can spend plenty of money on a fancy ski later after you've learned the basics  :)
