2011 Reunion Re-Cap
« on: June 20, 2011, 08:15:48 AM »
On behalf of the Tanis family, my wife, brother Dan, his wife and our kids we want to thank everyone on this forum and the organizers for inviting us to the First ANNUAL American Skier Boat Owners reunion. WE HAD A BLAST! The results were easy to measure, all I heard by Saturday evening & Sunday morning was talk about next years reunion! Several of us left Sunday afternoon to return to reality, others stayed behind to soak up more fun. Mother nature tried to dampen the event with a bit of rain but there was skiing every day & plenty of sore muscles to go around. I suspect next years event will be around the same time, same place & I predict a much bigger event! Details, pictures, & stories will be sure to follow, I even learned new terminology about navigation lights from our resident USCG expert, which I will never forget...maybe I should just say "some things that happen at the reunion stay at the reunion"...........RonT

Likewise Ron. What a great weekend. I really learned a lot hanging out with you guys and had a blast! Can't wait until next year! If any of you are ever in the Milwaukee or Lake Geneva area be sure to get a hold of us so that we can get together. We have a boat in Slinger and in Twin Lakes.

What a BLAST!!!  Too much fun with lots of great skiin' & barefootin'   :o   and best of all a BUNCH of GREAT PEOPLE!!!   We had four AM Skier boats show all the way from OH, PA, WI & TX  ( BJ wins the farthest tow record coming all the way from Dallas & Mike Bennet came all the way from Conneticut!!!  :)  KY Lake is HUGE with more coves and inlets to ski than we had time to find - fortunately, our little slice of heaven was surrounded by great water with "glass" in the a.m. & p.m.  :)   My family enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra day on Monday - the weather was PERFECT and the water was even BETTER with hardly ANY boats on the water during the weekdays  :)

Buchanan's Resort was very accomodating, the prices were reasonable (dock gas w/o ethanol was only $4 a gallon), the accomodations were nice and the food was good!!!

BTW, yes... I asked Ron to put up the "tail light"    :o  in my boat...  It happened during a "DUH" moment brought on by a combination of exhaustion, beer induced dehydration and the thrill of just skiing on the BEST GLASS I've ever been on... it was sooo smooth my turns were effortless   :)   Soooooo SUE me!!!!    LOL!!!!      I know I'll never hear the end of it... so please have fun at my expense   ;D

We sure had a blast!  Want to say what a pleasure it was to meet everyone...what great group of people.  Next year we're definitely staying for the week...too long of a drive for just a couple of days.  Took some pretty good pictures and will post just as soon as I get around to it.

I've got pics from my camera into my laptop now I need one of my kids to help me get them up to the forum site, this has taken 3 days so far, & Joel I never said what the terminology was that I learned, but since you put it out there I'm now thinking about a special award for next year...
I also told my son David that since Buchanan resort makes a big deal out of their annual golf cart parade that we need to compliment that with a boat parade next year.

Joe M,

Not sure exactly where in Conneticut.  It was an 87 or 88 Advance that he picked it up in PA on his way to TN.  One long haul for sure!!!  Mike would be better suited to answering your questions - suggest sending him a PM.

Everyone,

As Pelvic Woo (I love that name) has already mentioned and as we discussed on Sat night / Sun morning - next year were planning on staying for a whole week as well ( Renee has already given me the green light :)   We'll need at least 10 boats, if not more, for a "parade"...   If Ron gets his two projects completed, Mike Harry brings his (thats a given), that will bring it up to SEVEN...  I think we can gather alot more than 10 boats EASY by next June...  I'm already looking forward to it!!!  :)

Ron,

A "Tail Light" award sounds like fun...  as long as I get FULL credit for talking like a dumb@$$ landlubber...   ;)

Folks,

Let me say on behalf of myself and myself, I had a great time with everyone.  Enjoyed very much hanging out in the evenings BS'ing.  It was well worth the trip even though we had some rain.  Thanks to Ron and Dan for all of the valuable insights and stuff given away.  Thanks to Joel for getting the whole thing set up.  And thanks to Phil for keeping this website running smooth and keeping us connected.  The t-shirts that Rafe had done were great and the plaques that Mike had done were sweet !!!  I cant wait til next year and I have not stopped talking to my friends about what a great weekend it was.
Again, my thanks to all !!  See you next year for sure!!

We drove from Glastonbury, CT (just outside Hartford).  Picked up the boat at my Dad's house in Indiana, PA (just outside Pittsburgh).  The boat lives in PA during the winter and in CT during the summer months.  It's an '88 Advance that I purchased from a friend of mine who, I think, bought it as a demo boat from a pro skier...maybe up in Conneaut (sp.) Lake, PA.  I'll give him a call and get details.

Yeah, we used the plaque artwork. Actually, what happened is we gave the plaque image to someone and we were hoping that it would give him an idea and he would then throw in his own touch. Didn't really work out like that and we were so crunched for time we just went with it. Don't worry full credit was given to you for the artwork and we did not sell the shirts for a profit. Next year we will be a bit more organized. Do you work with photoshop or do graphic design of some sort?
