Steering Cables
« on: May 30, 2011, 09:17:39 AM »
The majority of all American Skiers use the Teleflex Rotary "Big-T" early models, "Safe-T" late models, with a 18' length. Exceptions are some models produced by Wesmar (1991-95) and Elan 2001+
The common Advance has the "Big-T" helm and has a large nut holding the cable into the helm, (SSC7218) these cables are becoming hard to find as they were replaced by the "Safe-T" helms with a quick-connect cable that snaps into the helm instead of using a nut. If you have the "Big-T" you can replace the cable with the "Safe-T" cable style SSC6218 AND THE ADAPTER. Simply remove the old cable, thread on the adapter or converter (#SA 27620P) then thread the new quick-connect cable into the drum, rotate the wheel until it snaps in place. I always recommend replacing the steering cable every 10 years or 500 hrs.
