Pulled the trigger on an American Skier
« on: March 22, 2010, 06:07:53 PM »
So I live in the seattle area been looking for a good ski boat for a while and finally pulled the trigger.  I believe this to be an all original 1990 American Skier Legend?  The boat has 650 hours and is all and all in pretty good shape. Can't wait for the weather to get nicer up here so i can get it out for a ski.  I bought the boat for 4k with out a trailer.  The trailer I got from a friend who had an extra.  For some reason the trailer is a bit long but I should be able to modify it later this summer to push the boat back.  My only complaint thus far is the steering seems a bit tight.  Anyone ever tried to convert one of these things to hydraulic steering? I know on the nautique I grew up with we were always changing out steering cables. I found what looks like a grease port on the top of the rudder but it seems clogged. I may need to back the port out and replace it to see if this helps.

Great buy!!! If you want a long answer to the steering cable ask & I will post in the Tech. section, the short answer is DO NOT USE Hyd. Steering.

Yeah I took the cable off where it goes in the steering cable and greased as much as i could. I did the same near the rudder and it made all the difference in the world.  Now I am trying to decide to put a tower on it or not.  I like the way it looks and it would look even better with a nice tower i am just not sure if I want to drill holes in it to mount a tower.
