Pulled the old fluid out yesterday... Red still, but fairly dirty. No signs of water either. Am going to check on the cooler today. Ron noted it's a good idea to have a water strainer inline. Mine did not have one. Guess it's too old! FYI - did some research on the dipstick assembly. Seems like they can be found for the velvet drives by Borg Warner, but they go for about $60. My rubber is pretty wrecked, but it still seals, so the nice new shiny handle/ dipstick is gonna have to wait!

I don't know what year they started putting in cooling water strainers but I know it was way after '79. CorrectCrafts didn't start putting in factory installed strainers until after that either. Again, I don't know what year for sure but well after '79.
Probably a good idea to add one. Especially if you're keeping the boat.

I ordered a strainer from RonT a few weeks ago for my 1981 which never had it.  Should be installing it soon.  Definitely good to have if you run in lakes that have vegetation which seems to be the norm around here. (Tallahassee FL)  Global warming isn't helping...
