Some pics of my '84
« on: July 01, 2013, 08:07:11 PM »
OK, I finally snapped a few pictures of my '84. I'll try to get a few more next time I'm on the water. As I said earlier, this was a tournament boat in the NW back in the 80's. It was used mostly for trick skiing. I am the second owner, but have had it for ~20 years.

It sat for almost TEN YEARS in my garage without any use (through two houses)! I refused to sell it.

I replaced distributor/wires/springs/plugs/points ... rebuilt the (Sherwood) pump, manually checked the timing and generally worked it over for a few weeks last year.

It fired right up.

FWIW, I was going add electronic ignition... I bought a set of $5 advance springs instead.

Looks great! I love the blue ones and I love Ford engines, lucky.

I think the "Hmmmmm" picture is rope quick release, in case someone get's tangled up....not that you were asking. :)

Is that the original interior?

Yes. It is pretty much all original -- outside of 'normal' wear parts. There are some small tears in the upholstery, and I may consider re-doing it in the near future. Carpet is original too.

The engine is stock. That blasted pump has caused me problems, and I have re-done it completely (twice). It is nice that Sherwood still has all of the innards for the pump.

I have the missing skier girl decals...

Were those decals put on every boat? I've had this boat a long time, and I never saw any decals. They could have been removed before I got the boat, but I just don't think that happened.

All the 18's had them but it was a common thing for promo owners to remove the rear seat, have the aft decal shipped loose, sometimes even a second set of decals shipped with the boat then at the end of the season when they sold the boat they would put the rear seat in, add / replace the decals to make the boat look new. MOST of the A/s boats built prior to 1985 were Promo boats that were traded every year.
