replacement thermostat
« on: July 05, 2012, 08:49:39 AM »
I want to replace my thermostat on my 2000 a/s tbx marine powered 5.7. I know I can order it but it will take a little time I was wandering if I could go to the local car parts place and use one from there. Or is it better to just order it from Skidim. Thank you!

Order it. I've heard too many problems from people not not knowing any better who used automotve stats. I don't think you'll be able to find a 160 degree automotive stat 1et alone 143. With their pressurized closed cooling system, they're designed to run 180-200  degrees.

When people run down to the lake to see what is making that noise, you've succeeded.

I can't seem to find anyone that knows which thermostat to order, ive call several distributors and they are not sure, they recommended calling Marine power but there number has been disconnected. Does anyone have any idea about where to order one! thanks for the help!

I assume a 143 degree but I'm not positive on the Marine Power conversions. Dan or Ron would be able to hook you up. If you hold on, one of them will be checking in before long.

Virgil,

Just send Ron or Dan Tanis a personal message.  They'll have what you need.

All raw water cooled Marine Power engines used 143 deg. thermostats, I have plenty available, let me know if you still need one.

An impeller that comes apart does not automatically mean the thermostat needs to be changed, I do reccomend that the t-stat be removed and inspected for debris from the impeller. Most of the rubber will be discharged through the wet exhaust.
