Has anyone fabricated a glove box lid or have any ideas for a replacement? I found a similar lid on a nautique website, but they want $60. I was thinking of fabricating one out of fiberglass and then either painting or wrapping in 3M Carbon Fiber Film. This is for a 1990 Volante. Thoughts?

If your going to go as far as making one out of glass, just take the extra step and mold it out of carbon fiber to start with...... You might be able to make a mold off the one you have. Just a thought.

Going with real carbon fiber. I ordered some mesh and resin off ebay for about $20. I will post some pics when complete.

You could probably make a couple $$ while your at it - Anyone who has this type of lid has the same crack down the middle... just sayin'

What are the dimensions? Our boat doesn't even have a glove box lid - just an indentation in the passenger side dash where we put stuff - a lid would be great!

Went with real carbon fiber. Turned out pretty good. Probably costed me about $40 for all the supplies.

Dimensions are 14.5" x 11"

So your selling me one for HOW MUCH?

My glove box cover suffered the same fate... too thin and too abused. Yours looks very nice AND sturdy

I made a template out of plywood and then covered it with carbon fiber cloth and epoxy resin which i got off ebay.

I released the plywood mold. It turned out kind of rough at first, but I gave it several coats of clearcoat spray paint and now it is glassy smooth after wetsanding.

Very cool man. I would have never thought to use plywood. I would have made a glass mold to lay the fiber into. Seems like it came out pretty dang nice.

I wrapped the plywood mold in saran wrap for an easy release. It probably would of turned out even better if I could make a backwards mold, but I didn't now how I could make one.
