Plastic swim platform problems
« on: June 25, 2011, 10:22:04 PM »
Just bought a 92 Advance.  It has a plastic swim platform that is drooping in the middle.  Anybody else have this problem.  Any fixes.

I've never heard of a plastic swim platform. Only ever heard of wood or fiberglass. I believe Ron Tanis will make you one, I'd get with him to see what a cost would be.

I think he will make either wood or glass.

It's a first for me, never seen one of these, looks like a roto-cast plastic which would tend to sag, also looks like it would be hot on the feet & slippery when wet. If you like what you have I'd attempt to reinforce the bottom.

Thanks for the welcome.  I'll post more pics later.  I looked at a 90 and 92 advance.  Both had these platforms.  It is very slippery. I was thinking of putting something over it.  Its 2 pieces (top and bottom). I wonder if I pulled it apart if there is some kind of support inside.  I'd really like a teak platform, not sure were I could find one though.

Find one, good luck. Have one made, alot easier I think. Probly a little costly though. Like I said, talk to Ron Tanis, he can point you in the right direction.

Yeah, that plastic has got to go - if for no other reason than you'll probably break you neck trying to put on a ski...   Now Ron & Dan will accuse me of being a heritic, but a lot of the older inboard boats had the same style teak swim platforms like MC, CC, etc, that MAY fit your boat.  I think mine came off of different boat since there are more than one set of screw holes in the underside where a different set of braces fit it in a previous life.  I'd check around some local marinas / boat storage places or a few other sites to see whats available.   Lots of boats out there sitting in storage...  Ya never know what you'll trip over  :)

I have the pattern for an OEM Teak platform, can get a current quote if needed, the easy way to tell an American Skier platform form others is that our boards were on "edge" vs flat, nearly twice the board footage of teak used.

I was thinking another brand platform might work as well.  I'm in Central Tx.  I know there is some boat salvage yards around here, I'll see what I can find.

Looking at wetamb's gallery.  He has pics of a brochure for a 92 Advance.  It list a poly platform as an option over a fiberglass platform.  So that must be what is.
