Indmar 350 cooling
« on: May 01, 2010, 06:11:46 AM »
When I purchased my boat there was no thermostat in the water neck housing. Is there supposed to be one? If so what temp should I buy?

Indmar answered my question for me, just so everyone knows incase you dont they should have a 140 degree T-stat.

If a 140 deg. stat is hard to find many were changed to 160 deg. (most promo boats were switched to 160 to improve performance)

160 to improve performance...... 160 it is! Does that thing go in the housing the same as a car or upside down?

Good question...  which side is up on the stat???  I always get that confused and have to reinstall - mechanically inclined I'm not...  :(

One more little project to do tomorrow... change out the thermostat to a 160 F type.  Gonna take her out on the lake Wednesday just for the helluvit... might as well run her with a new stat and see if there is any noticable difference!!!

Thanks ya'all  :)

Aright, another question on the T-stat....... Is there only to be one or two? If only one, does it go between intake and water neck, or inbetween the two parts of the water neck?

After I took it all apart to look at it, the water neck appears to have a ring in place where a T-stat should go...... I have only ever known to put one where the housing and the intake go together.

Any help would be great, Im looking to break in the 350 today and dont want to overheat.... She is brand new!

only one, it goes where the ring is, between the 2 parts of the filler neck
if you don't have a good gasket, scrap the old one away and use some good rtv sealant
around the perimeter of the housing b4 you put it together
keep an eye on the temp gauge you should be good to go
