1987 American Skier , Advance mod.
« on: July 11, 2015, 04:51:15 PM »
I'm a new member as just recently purchased the 87 AS Adv. mod. '  As I was looking at the motor I noticed hoses running fwd under the floor ,   wondering what they were for .   I found that the boat has a heater in the bow with ducts
running to bottom of the rear facing front seat !
What I would like know is :
Is this something standard / optional or did someone install it ?

     Thanks ,
          Greg Ricci

It was an option in some boats, which ones will have to wait on Ron to answer (or someone with more knowledge that myself).

I'm sure it was optional but have known guys to install aftermarket units without an issue. Virtually any inboard can have them installed and I don't know of any that had them as standard equipment but I could certainly be wrong on that.
The ducts that you say run under the front seat generally are not permanently attached to anything. They are designed to be used like portable hoses that you can stick under your jacket while you're driving or riding. They work awesome like that.
The bigger problem is making sure the entire system is properly drained when winterizing which is the biggest reason one usually doesn't work.

When people run down to the lake to see what is making that noise, you've succeeded.

Thanks to everyone that responded .
The hoses ( Ducts ) are permanently connected to round swiveling grills on the base of the rear facing front seat.
One facing the stern , one facing the helm chair ( stb. side ) .

    Thanks Again ,

Heaters were a rarely sold option back then, but I recall when we did them it was a 3 outlet heated 2 on the dash, 1 on the drivers feet. It is also not uncommon or difficult to install in the field.
