back seats
« on: November 23, 2010, 06:42:26 AM »
My wife would really like if my AS Pro (Elan's TBX) had a back seat that went up into a platform. http://velvet1.homeip.net:8080/~amskier/forum/index.php?action=media;sa=media;in=387;preview In fact, I keep two milk crates that are the right height to put the seat up with the level of the back deck when we are just out floating.   Did the TBX have that option prior to Elan?  Is there enough support there on the upholstery (sides) to do something to support the seat back and/or bottom?  Something like a stainless grab rail attached to the sides at the right height?

Quite honestly, if it were up to me, I'd put the back seat in my attic but I do have to make everyone happy.

The "Convertible" rear seat was standard prior to Elan, the seat back & bottom were hinged together with special hinges. The seat bottom would be lifted up & over custom stainless grab rails that doubled as supports for the sundeck. As the seat bottom is lifted up a "kickstand" is pivoted out and sets into a cup in the floor which then supports the center of the seat assembly. (I think I still have some of the custom stainless side rail/supports) The seat bottom also had a pull out center section that saved the upholstery from foot traffic entering the boat. There were several unique componets that made this up, it was complicated but was also the only rear seat that converted into a large sundeck using the entire back & bottom cushion for the deck. If you want send me several close-up pics of what you have so I can try to determine what they did & what you need to complete it....RonT

Thank you.  I will try.  It's put away for the winter but I might  be able to pull something off.
