Fuel Filter Changing Tip
« on: April 22, 2014, 02:40:58 PM »
Just changed the spin on fuel filter on the '88 Advance & wonder how many owners have fits doing this. The filter on most A/S boats is near the front of the engine attached to the stringer through the aluminium motor mount. it's easy to feel, can be difficult to see, and very difficult to get a filter strap wrench around. Here is the trick: loosen the two top lag bolts (1/2" ) 2-3 turns but don't remove the bolts, this allows plenty of "filter swing movement" to get that strap wrench on & still has plenty of stability to torque the filter off. (a typical fuel filter will be snug for a full turn before you can spin it off with your hand)
Remember to fill the new filter up to about a 1/2" from the top with clean fuel & smear motor oil on the gasket when re-installing.
