Decals from RonT

A few months ago I ordered the side bubble script decals for my boat from Ron Tanis.  They were a little pricey, but I didn't want to go through the hassle of going to a local decal shop, and didn't want to have to design them from scratch to look like the original.  I also wanted something that was quality and would stay on the boat in the water.  I use a local sign shop for decals for my business but just wasn't sure that decals from them would be nice enough, besides I think it is good to support Ron in what he is doing and supporting the old AMSkier's.

After installing the decals from Ron I have to say they are awesome!  Well worth every penny.  If anyone out there is trying to decide what to do for your boat, it is DEFINITELY worth it!  They were not very difficult to put on the boat...as long as you have patience to prep the boat for them first with a clean surface.

How did you get the old ones off...hours of work and  Goo Gone? Mine are all beat up.

I was lucky in that except for the 'skier girl', my old decals were already missing!  I could still see the outline of where they used to be in the gel coat.  This helped when installing them.  I waxed the entire boat with 3m wax, then used rubbing alcohol where the decals went.  After that I just followed the directions that Ron gave me. 

I don't envy you having to remove the old decals!  I've used Goo Gone before, not a very big fan of it.  When I remove decals from other stuff, Wd-40 or Pb blaster seem to work best, I would just be worried about using those products on gel coat and/or clear coat on the boat.  I'm sure others can give you some pointers to make it easier.

Heat gun takes them off really easy. Heat and edge to start them peeling and then focus on about an inch at a time. You'll get the hang of it in no time. Then just wipe off the small amount of sticky residue with acetone. I removed all the decals on my boat in about an hour. Just be warned to not get the gelcoat too hot and you will burn your fingers a bit if you get them too hot also.

Very easy to remove!

Didn't want to start a new thread, but wanted to add that Ron's new Skier Girl decals were the finishing touches on a "tree through the back of the boat" repair... The originals were really rough anyways. Great excuse for some new graphics. Well worth the money, shipped quickly, and went on quick and easy! Doesn't look like it, but the main decals are pretty nicked up... Still waiting on the black and yellow production run on those!;)

'79... We think the paint scheme was for a Cal-Berkeley connected client! Maybe even a ski team boat? Unique for sure. Like your color scheme better!
