O.K.  Where is everybody???   Give me some info so I can make some plans... like a Group Dinner...  Thats as fancy as were gonna get this year.  The rest of the time we'll be on the lake, in the lake, around the lake, etc...

If there is enough interest, we may have a Tech Session on prop removal (Phil's boat) and/or just a general maintenance "How To" session if I can get one or both of the Tanis brothers to share some of their vast wisdom, experience, knowledge, expertise and good ole fashioned know how...  :)

COME ON PEOPLE GIVE ME YOUR INFO!!!   ;D

Sincerely,  Joel a.k.a. the Reunion Planner, Activities Director, Go-fer, Bartender, Chief Cook & Bottle Washer, or just plain ole "Hey You"   :)

Looks like both of my boys are going to join Susan & I, (total of 4) they really haven't seen many of the older boats & asked me if any of the guys would let them ride in some of the classics. Yes we plan on doing the dinner deal. We won't be bringing a boat, have a 24' Eagle V-Drive that is very incomplete, (my test mule) & a TBX hull & deck only, could bring that & have a paddle race. My boys & I are doing a restomod on a 1971 Hydrodyne when they are home on weekends, maybe that one will be ready.

Good news!  The Resort Manager is really excited about our Reunion.  I'm providing her information about the Reunion and the history of AM Skier boats in an attempt to get the local newpaper to do a story / taking pics, etc!!  Very cool!  She'd be happy to get us moored in side by side slips in a group and assist in any other requests we may have.  If ya'all have ideas on how to make this an EVEN BETTER event, please post it on here and I'll have a crack at it!!

Dinner:   We have reservations on Saturday Night @ 5:00 p.m. at Buchanan's Oak Tree Grill at the Resort.  Were going in a little early so they may provide better service to our group before the typical dinner rush.  The restaurant has a full menu from Appetizers to Burgers, Steaks, Chicken, Sandwiches and Wraps with Fried Catfish as the house specialty.  They do not serve alcohol, but BYOB is perfectly acceptable, so bring the adult beverage of your choice.   We'll be ordering individually off the Dinner/Lunch menus so no need to take advance orders.

I'll keep ya'all updated.   Keep posting whos coming with total # of people, boat, slip, etc...

Joel

Still waiting to hear from Jaeslim, Chris Heile, Wetamb, Keehr22 & Daveo (pending) and anyone else who's coming or maybe coming!!!   There are a lot of people on this board whom we've not heard from...   YET!!!

This Reunion is coming together pretty well for our 1st effort.  24 people are attending - we'd definitely like to see more attend and could use a couple more BOATS quite frankly!!

I know gas prices this summer are gonna SUCK, but I'm gonna bite the bullet and tow my boat 650 miles one way to make this Reunion happen... (my wife thinks I'm nuts... probably correct   ???   Mike Harry (Gonchuan) has put together some 1st Annual Reuion Plaques for our boats   8)  and Rafe is working on some high quality Tee Shirts with a similar design...  8)  We've got an informal dinner/get together planned on Saturday Night at the Resort and we'll get some face time with the guys that DESIGNED & BUILT these marvelous boats!!!  The resort manager is gonna hook us up with some locals that know the lake and can point us towards some nice "glass" - the skiing is gonna be FANTASTIC!!  This is gonna be a great time   ;D

Come on guys!  Write and tell us your coming, # of people, style of boat your bringing, if your getting a slip, etc...

Thanks in advance,

Joel

The Dyne will be a stretch, my youngest son is being "schooled" on that one, the hull has been stripped of its water-logged balsa core hull system & is being "AmSkierized" to a more conventional foam core stringer, floor, and transom system. We took a full truckload of water saturated balsa to the dump last week, new stringers set yesterday, will glass in today & next week.

I figured it was a long shot since your just getting into it...  I dont think I've ever seen a Hydrodyne up close & personal so I'm hoping you can pull it together in time   ;D   Same goes for Mike Harry with his oil leak issue...   I'll be praying ya both "Get-R-Done" in time for the party!!!

Well, I hate to do it but its got to be done. I wont be able to make it to the reunion.  I thought it would be because of the oil leak I'm having troubles with but unfortunately a member of the family is sick and its possible a month or less is all I have left to spend with them.

I am truly sorry I wont be there with you all.

Joel, the plaques are being shipped to your address,  save me one please and somebody pull me an XXL shirt aside.

I'm trying to look at the positive here....... at least next year my boat will be complete before everyone gets to drag a fine tooth comb over my work  :'(

Mike,

NO PROBLEM...  So sorry to hear one of your family is gravely ill...  You do what you gotta do to be with them.  I'll set aside a shirt and a plaque and we'll all hoist a tall cold adult beverage to YOU for everything you've done to make this reunion happen!

We'll catch you at the next one!  I think I'll volunteer you to be the "Event Coordinator" for the AM Skier Reunion Part Dux...   ;)

Be good and take care of family!

Wetamb just confirmed he will be attending the Reunion and he's bringing his AM Skier ( all the way from Dallas, TX - there has GOT to be an award for that kind of effort  :)   Maybe a AM Skier dash plaque and a cold beer - I'll bring the plaques and the first round is on me!!!

Woooo Hoooo!!!  Another Skier on the lake!!!   :)
Title: Re: Reunion Update!!! June 17th-19th
Post by: Joel on May 17, 2011, 03:26:14 PM
Heres the latest:  We have 22 people confirmed, Four AM Skiers, One Pontoon and two covered slips reserved.  If Daveo can make it (still pends) that will make FIVE AM Skiers and 24 or 25 people.  Not bad for a first annual anything...   :)  Its still not too late to join us so pull the trigger and get your reservations made with Buchanan's Resort!!!

Planning:  I'll be arriving Friday a.m. and will touch base with Pam Robison, the Manager, to get information on places to ski with the best "glass" - its a HUGE lake.  I would like to get us together Friday evening, 8:00 ish, outside the check-in, so we can do proper introductions, put a face to a name, and look at some AM Skier boats...  For late arrivals, I'll leave my contact information & cottage # at the front desk for anyone that needs to get a hold of me or has questions.  Everything else Sat / Sun is pretty open - get together with some other AM Skiers to enjoy the lake and the company  :)  Hopefully we can use Keehr22's party barge/pontoon on Friday and Saturday as a central docking location on the lake (probably near "Budweiser Beach").  I'll try to get us some maps of the lake as well  :)

Our dinner reservations are all set on Saturday so all you guys need to do is show up at 5:30 p.m. - remember dinner is BYOB.

Joe M,

WELCOME ABOARD!!!   The Reunion is June 17th - 19th on KY Lake.  Here is a link to Buchanan's Resort, near Paris, TN, on Kentucky Lake...  http://www.parislanding.com/buchanan/index.htm (http://www.parislanding.com/buchanan/index.htm)   Its probably best to call (ph # should be listed at the bottom of the website) - ask for Pam Robison, tell her your with the AM Skier Boat Reunion.  They have big/small cottages and hotel rooms (prices vary).  They also have camp sites, full utilities, a pool, restaurant, marina, etc...

Come on out and show off that boat!!!   We'd love to have ya  :)  Let me know if you can make it, how many persons, if you'd be interested in dining with us on Sat night, and if you're getting a covered slip (reserve that next to mine when making reservations - $14 per night).

Again, welcome to the site!   Joel

Is anybody interested in a barefoot boom - very nice, cables are good, no chaffing, etc...  I'm looking for $150.  I can bring it with me to the Reunion so SHIPPING wont cost a small fortune...  I'm too damn old to take up barefootin' now & my kids are not interested...

Any takers???

Joel,
I want that boom.  But I will not be at the reunion.  Maybe we could work something out.  Do you know anyone who frequents Kansas?  I could easily go as far as Missouri but beyond that it gets far out.

John,  Not even Dorothy goes to Kansas anymore!!!    ::)    I think the closest guy who's going to the Reunion would be Dan Tanis and he's in Indiana I think... still too far   :(   If no one picks it up at this one - I'll save it for you at the NEXT Reunion.

John,

I will be heading to KC on Mon from the reunion so I could bring it with me if you want to meet me sometime on Mon night or Tues morning.  I will be leaving back for Texas on Tues sometime.  I head south towards Joplin from KC as I am not sure where you are. Or I could alter my route back to Dallas a little more and take 35 to Emporia then on to Witchita.  It will add some time onto my travel but it wont kill me.  Just let me know if that will work.

SEVEN DAYS and counting down!!!!    8)   I AM STOKED!!!!

Everyone:  When your checking in be sure to ask the desk clerk for the Cottage # for Joel Roberts...  Also, check the boat ramp as we may be working on Phil's rudder replacement.  I should be hangin' around most of Friday a.m. & afternoon.  I'm planning to go for a ski in the p.m. after the lake smooths out - let me know if you wanna go too!!!  :)  :)

I'll bring the kid's skis (small & adult), a nice sized tube and a decent knee board.  Everyone is welcome to borrow the kid's skis, tube or kneeboard if you dont have any or would like to try out something...

p.s.  I'll bring my Barefoot Boom and/or my Skylon Wakeboard Pole (slips over the pylon) if anyone is interested in buying either one.  They are priced at $150 each - very good prices and both are in great condition.   They came with the boat and I dont use them ( I like to Slalom ).  If I dont any interest or an offer PRIOR to June 16th they WONT be in the boat (too heavy and gas $$ is gonna be tough as it is).

Looking forward to meeting everyone!!!  Please write on here or PM me if you have any questions, comments or concerns!!

Mike,  Which one?   The barefoot boom is a completely separate unit from the Skylon.  Both are made out of hi-grade aluminum and are pretty hefty units - very well made.  The barefoot pole comes in two pieces that fit together and bolts around the top of the pylon, lays horizontally, hanging over the side, with covered cable that connects to the bow eye.  The Skylon slips over top of the pylon, stands vertically, with a cable & loop that fits over the bow (through the bow eye).  Cant use both at the same time.

I'm too old to learn how to barefoot and too stubborn to learn how to wakeboard...  ;)

Ron,  I'd do the same if I were in your shoes (or flip flops)...  We'll find you both sooner or later  ;)   LOL!!!!

I' m going to be more than ready for a Mai Tai with a little umbrella & watch someone else work on ski boats for a while. Where I'm located the majority of my work is on 30-40' Fountains & other go-fast boats, but this past month has been almost all ski boats, Volante,  a TBX, my Hydrodyne, there's an engine hanging from a LazAir that needs a diaper change, a 2012 BrandX wakeboard boat awaiting a shaft alignment to a 600hp supercharged 2013 prototype engine, and a 2012 brand x promo boat with 12 hours on it that just blew a rear main oil seal at a local tournament this afternoon and in my spare time this weekend I'm going to Florida to pick up a ragged out Advance for me & my boys to play with. (I'm sure my youngest boy will want to rebuild this one before the reunion...too many of those damn TV shows that rebuild stuff overnight) Can't wait to drive this one the guy swears it runs 55mph by gps, must be one of those kilometer gps's

BJ,   You got it!  I know these things can be pretty pricey, but I'd rather give one of our AM Skier family a good deal.  I dont have any wakeboard equipment so if you want to USE it you'll need to bring a board!

Ron,  You & Dan can sit back... relax... enjoy...  Phil & I will turn a couple of wrenchs, drop a rudder & put the "new" one in faster than a jackrabbit on a date!   That is, of course, IF ya'all can resist the temptation of working on Phil's cherry AM Skier   ;)

See ya'all in a couple of days!!!

Hi everyone! Sure wish I could join you all at the reunion! Just could not make the date work. But I am the original owner of a pristine 93 Volante with, yes, 1600+ hrs on it. Still purrs like a kitty and is one damn beautiful boat.  I will post pics sometime soon either on this site or the FB site. I know many of you will be curious to see it. I am also proud to say I put nearly every last one of those hrs on it myself AND have done about 90% of all the maintenance and upkeep myself. I have lots of tips tricks and knowledge to share - put most of those hrs on it teaching skiing on Lake of the Ozarks. I scrapped the orig trailer, had a custom one made, scrapped the original swim platform, made a custom one myself.  Other than that and a tranny overhaul and new drive shaft, she is all original and babied - definitely does not look or ACT her age. If anyone is ever in the KC area and wants to talk Skiers or even do some skiing, look me up!

I am so glad to see this happen.  Sorry I could not be part of it.  I had an MRI Friday so hopefully I will get the results and my doctor's plan tomorrow.  I had a pretty good weekend and was able to mow my own grass for the first time in a long time.  My boat is still in the garage....completely unheard of.

Have fun.  I can't wait to see the pictures.

i THINK ITS A 1990  BUT
IT HAS A FUNKY NUMBER 2 SPACED BEHIND THE SERIAL NUMBER. IT IS WHITE WITH
RED AND BLACK INTERIOR. I HAVE HAD THE BOAT 6 YEARS AND COMPLETELY REDONE IT.
i'LL TRY TO GET MY KIDS TO SHOW MW HOW TO ADD PICTURES.

HELLA, AGAIN. SO WHAT IS THIS REUNION ALL ABOUT AND WHERE IS IT?
DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS BOAT I JUST DISCRIBED?
I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE BOAT OR THE COMPANY.

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

THX,

JV

I'm going to go out on a limb here, I seriously doubt it has a Cleveland in it. It may, but I've NEVER heard of a Cleveland in a boat. Most likely its a 351 Windsor or 302 Windsor.

The 2 at the end of your VIN is probably because its the second VIN on the boat, depending on its location. One will be on the Hull (mines on transom drivers side) and the other one would be hidden for police type purposes. (Mine is under arm rest).

pictures would really help with the rest of your question.  As far as the reunion,  read this entire post from the beginning and that should explain it in further detail.

I would like to have a barefoot session. Done it a few times on the boom and once deep water but that was a few years back. I could use some pointers. I know we have a guy on this site (Dan) who knows a thing or two about footn.

NO problem, I expect to be arriving mid / late afternoon and I'm guessing Ron will be there about the same time........ he drives slower but starts earlier

we leave here @ 8 am and drop the dogs off, then start truck'en down

400 miles gets us there about 4ish

I expect to do beginners barefoot clinic I assume Saturday and or Sunday morning
and maintenance clinic or 2 as well.

a boat with a boom and a wakeboard works pretty good for beginners

front deeps really require a suit with padded shorts, which I will bring an extra set (size large)

My family and I will be heading back home on Monday morning

we look forward to seeing all of you and having a great time

Wow!!!  Thanks for steppin' up Dan!!!   This whole "reunion" idea was to get together some AM Skiers and have some fun on a nice lake, etc...  Now its starting to actually look like an organized event   ;D   Guess I'm gonna need to put together a quasi-agenda or something to have at the check-in desk...

Phil & Dan,

Are either of you guys bringing a Barefoot Boom???

Sea Dog,

The reunion is this weekend Fri - Sun on KY Lake at Buchanan's Resort (actually located in TN).  The link to the Resort is posted earlier in this thread and in the other "AM Skier Reunion" threads.   If you contact them, ask for Pam, and tell her your with the American Skier Ski Boat Reunion...  maybe that'll help ya get a room, etc...  If you bring a boat and would like a covered slip ($14 a night) ask to have your boat slipped next to my mine (Joel Roberts).

Call me at (614) 886-3511 if you (or anybody else) has any questions, comments or concerns and I'll try to answer them, but NO promises   ::)   ::)   ::)    LOL!!!  See ya'all there!!!

Hopefully everyone is keeping up with this thread    ;D

I'll have copies of the "1st Annual American Skier Reunion" AGENDA available at the front desk - it will have a basic timeline of the weekend including A.M. Skiing / P.M. Skiing, Dinner / Get-together, Dan's Barefoot Sessions, etc...

Be sure to ask for a copy when you check-in at the Resort's front desk.

Next year, Gonchuan, a.k.a. Mike Harry, is gonna do all the organizing and I'm gonna do all the drinkin'    :o

See ya'all there!!!   Call me if you have questions @ (614) 886-3511

Budweiser beach has been recommended as a good site to anchor, beach, swim, hangout, etc, with "the nicest sandy beach on the lake!"  Unfortunately, our local AM Skier guy, Keehr22, is deployed and cant make the reunion - we'll hoist a cold one to him and pray for his safe return!  I'm not sure why they call it Bud Beach, but I could hazard a guess  ;)

I'll try to get a map of the lake to hand out, but just in case, here are the directions to the beach:  Print & bring it with you!!!

Heading out of Buchanans bay turn right (south) once you hit the big lake.  There is a long strip of land (island more or less) down the middle of the lake, stay on the west (right) side of it.  As you head south watch for the power lines crossing the lake, Budweiser beach is just short of the power lines on your left (western coast of the island).  On a nice day you'll probably spot other boats, its the best sandy beach on the lake!

Thank you for your reply. We have a wedding to go to this weekend in Traverse City, Mi so we won't be able to attend. I just found this site this week so its a little late for us this year. Hopefully next year.
I look forward to talking with everyone on this site since I have a lot to learn about my skier.
Regards, and have a fun safe weekend.

Should be arriving sometime afternoon Friday

19' AM Skier Advance (just pulled her out of the barn so don't make fun of how dirty she is...and I might just need a jump)

No slip as of yet, but maybe.

We will gladly attend any function/dinner...as long as beers will be made available.

See you tomorrow...I hope.

Thanks guys, it was great the get to know you also.  I think the boy scout in me wants to always be prepaired but I can be a bit of a McGyver if needed and the more stuff you carry the better to solve problems with boats !!
