First question, what should my idle be? It sounds pretty good around 900 to 1000, but I want to make sure that wont create problems for the transmission.
Secondly, I have water pouring into the hull through the shaft (stuffing box I guess its called). Is it hard to repack that thing? Can I get the packing anywhere? What type of packing do I need ( is there a certain type ) and how much should I buy so I dont go getting a gross of the stuff and only need 3 or 4 feet.
Thanks guys. These are the only 2 things that are keeping me on the trailer as of now. Other than that, it appears I am ready to road test her. I dont mean to sound like Im in a hurry or anything ;D but I sort of am ;) I want to get this thing in the water off the trailer so I can start the break in!

Ok, answer to one of my questions is I can get it from ski dim, now what size? Also they have a "hardly ever drips" packing that is gor tech or something, would this work as good or better than the other rope type?
Its a diff between 4 dollars and 14. I dont mind spending the money if one is better.
Thanks again,
Mike

idle should be around 650-700rpm
900-1000 won't hurt anything but shifting will be more abrupt
I've never used the gortex packing (yet) we carry Teflon packing

What should the timing be at idle? About 8 degrees?
And what size.... 1/4 inch?

Thanks Dan, also called Ron to get the size. Just so happens I have some! Thanks again guys.

Go for the gortex, that's what I installed and you can get it to stay cool without hardly dripping.

Im actually going with graphite cause Ive got some of it! I wanna run this turd! But I will be changing it soon enough to something better. It had graphite in it, dont know if that was original or not, but talking to Ron it might have been. He said graphite was replaced sometime in 1986.
