Title: Interchangeable auto starter

I have a top mount starter on my 1983 Volante (indmar  ford 351 engine)
I would like to Chang the starter to an auto starter
What would I ask for at the auto parts store cross reference an auto model ?

You don't want to do that. Starters, carbs, fuel pumps and distributors are marine specific. They're all specifically designed with added features that prevents boats from going boom.

You can easily get an inexpensive marine specific starter from a variety of internet sources, if low cost is your goal.
