I have the worst of luck this season! What could possibly be wrong?!
Boat won't idle. Stalls. Have to leave engaged or choked.
When on choke to keep running, get a small amount of gas on the water.
Turned boat off for a few minutes. Restarted. It farted out a black pancake, like an oil ball!!
What could that be?!
Then to add to the mystery, I went to the marina today and it idled perfectly. Upon startup I had a small black pancake come from exhaust and minimal white smoke. Engine warmed and ran great. Turned it off and let it sit, restarted, repeated three times, no issues at restarts.
However at idle, I heard a high pitched noise. Not long like a whine, but not short like a click.
I am thinking it could be the new belt, or would a valve squeak if it was stuck??

You'll have to explain what you mean by keeping it "engaged or choked". An electric choke isn't manually operated...at least not without lifting the engine cover and removing the spark arrestor. By engaged do you mean in gear?
Maybe a tune up is in order. The timing and idle mixture may need some adjustment.
A Some more info would help.
