I need to replace the thermostat for my 82 A/S. After looking around the forum it sounds like a 140 degree is the correct temp. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Sorry for the late response. Yes that would be the correct one.

I purchased a 145 degree thermostat for my '87 Advance with Chevy PCM from FirstChoiceMarine.com #PLE-RP026003. When it arrived it had 170F printed on it, so I contacted them to switch it out. They wrote me back today saying that the manufacturer told them that 145 degree thermostats are no longer available. Could that possibly be true?
If so, how harmful will having the wrong thermostat be for my carbureted engine be?

Not true at all. Skiboatpartsonline.com has them. So does several others that I checked out.
There is a couple of weird looking PCM stats that I found that were listed as 170 and replace the 145. Damn expensive suckers too. They don't look anything like the old school stats that you should be running. I would find another parts place.

Those expensive ones (PCM#RP026003) are what I need for my '87 Advance. They are not available anymore at 140 degrees. I was able to find a 143 degree #3675303K that work on Chysler/OMC motors, but the thick copper base does not allow it to fit all the way inside the PCM Thermostat Housing. I may just have to convert the whole thing over to the newer Thermostat Housing (PCM#RK025026) which uses the regular thermostats.

Does this work?

How big is the the outside diameter of this thermostat? It seems like a machine shop could make an adapter for a more common thermostat.
