Title: key switch
Post by: Miller on July 07, 2015, 07:18:05 PM
I just replaced the kill switch on my 1993 American Skier and now when I turn the key off the boat doesn't shut off. Is it possible that I hooked the kill switch up wrong? there are 4 prongs on the back of it and only 2 wires. And the battery is dying quick, could the key switch be staying on and killing the battery?

The kill sw. is wired in series between the ign. switch, and the engine, if you wired it right the eng. will start, if not it won't. The kill switch will not keep the eng. from shutting off, to prove this pull the kill switch tether when the engine is not shutting off and you will still have the engine continuing to run. My guess is another wiring mistake somewhere. The purple wire is the ign. circuit, open the purple circuit and the engine will shut off. Any red (hot) wire crossing over to the purple wire will engerize the ignition circuit and drain the battery over time.
