Hi, I'm a newbie here looking for some basic information. I found a 1978 American Skier for a reasonable price. I am looking for information on what to look for when checking out this boat. The mechanical portion doesn't scare me but I would like to know about the construction of the boat and what tends to be problem areas. If I'm correct these came with Ford 351's in them. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Thirdgen,
I see that no one has responded to your post. Did you purchase the 78? IF not, Ron Tanis is the man to talk too for sure. He know all the ins-and-outs of all of the models. Best suggestion is to call him directly. Click on the Tanis Research and Design link on any of the pages and it will direct you to his personal site and provide you with a phone number.

Thanks for the response. I will definitely give him a call.

I bought a 78 a couple years ago but the engine has been rebuilt and flooring changed to wood. I haven't had many issues besides replacing the Holley carb, impeller, and throttle cable. Took it out last weekend and ran great.

Forgot to add but not sure what they are asking for the boat but I bought mine with an overhauled engine with 90 hours and upgraded performance parts for $4,000. In the couple years I've had it I have about $700 in it for a new carb, impeller, and throttle cable.
