Title: Fall
Post by: phil on September 09, 2010, 05:44:03 PM
Man, I am not ready for fall yet. It's 53 degrees out right now and going into the 40's tonight.. Good thing I bought a new wetsuit this spring..It almost makes me depressed thinking that I'm going to have to winterize my boat in the not to distant future.

Yeah I know. Its in the mid to low 90s here at night now.  ::)  its a regular cold front. I won't get cold or even cool weather until January.  Its over on February and back to the 80s.

I dropped mine at the marina for winter storage on Monday...I already miss her and am longing for spring.  I am looking forward to a full season with her next year though, and hopefully getting a boom on her to teach my girls to ski and mess around with a little barefooting myself.

Thinking ahead - does anyone have any strength training routines they do to get ready to barefoot in the spring?

I don't know about barefooting but I can tell you that this winter and early spring's routine got me more prepared for slalom this year than anything ever (and I'm not getting any younger). On MWF I do kettlebells of which you can find lots of videos on youtube.  I also throw in a lot of abs and obliques (tons of bridges) as well as push-ups.

On Tuesday and Thursday I put a safety harness on and pull two tires (one with a rim) through the grass or snow.  Sometimes I do a run/walk/run/walk...... Sometimes just brisk walk with no stopping. I might throw in a tire toss, drag to the tire, toss, drag...and so on.  Remember the one Rocky movie??

Water temp has dropped some due to the cold evenings and some colder days.  It's going to be in the high 70's through the week and of course I'm busy.  Can't ski until Saturday when highs drop back to low 60's.

Heck no. I'll break out the wetsuit for the next month. Seasons too short here in Wisco to not own a wetsuit. I typically winterize near the end of October and put the boat in storage November 1st.

I just wear a thin shorty, We met at 6:30 pm tonight.  I was just getting on the platform to put my ski on when Adam showed up.  I finished putting on my ski as he was pulling out.  Neutral, dropped in, clear, back in gear, rope tight, go.  one lap around lake.  Quick turn around for me pulling Adam and off the water at dusk.  Gotta love it.

Ok got a drysuit on Ebay that I wanted to test so I could leave feedback.  I generally run the boat before winterizing so it's warmed up.  Figured, kill two birds with one stone and go for one last ski.  36 degrees air temp.  I had my driver give me an easy pull hoping that my hair would not get wet.  It backfired as he pulled me too easily and I got all kinds of spray.

Face was pretty cold.  I climbed onto the boat.  Adam said, you ok, you don't look good.  I said, Oh I'll be ok but as a friend, I want you to ski if you want to ski but as a friend I would not recommend it.

He was smart enough not to go.

Boat is winterized, just needs a bit of spiffing up before tucking it in.

36 degrees...Man thats crazy.  Hope that the rest of you stayed dry in the suit.  Still mid to high 70's here in Dallas.  Hoping to get on the lake tomorrow and ski.  Might have to break out the wetsuit cause its been cold at night.
