Hi everyone! I am wondering if anyone is familiar with the 1988 MasterCraft Barefoot edition. I have skied behind a 1988 Prostar, and wonder if it will be the same kind of wake? Any information is helpful. Thanks!

Do you mean an 88 AM Skier Barefooter? I've skied behind one of those and the wake isnt as nice as the Advance (of course not many boats are)... The barefooters were built for "footin" and the Advance was built for slalom. If your wanting to SKI, go with the Advance hull design.
Of course, my opinion and a $1 might get you a cup of coffee... althought NOT Starbucks... LOL

'88 mastercraft barefooter can be one of several models - none of them close to an American Skier
1st off the American Skier Barefoot Skiers were from '82 - '87, maybe '88 : '82 - '84 (+ a few '85 and only 1 in '86 8) ) these boats were American Skier Volante closed bows with 290 hp chevys no rear seat and Barefoot Skier graphics
'86, '87, '88 American Skier / Barefoot Skiers were Advance hulls which are very different than the volante closed bow
for skiing on skis the Advance hull is the top - any boom work and long line in the curl the Advance is still the top
wake crossing - not so much........ the barefoot skier / volante is much easier to wake cross than the advance
mastercraft also had their hat in the ring with barefoot boats the best by far from mastercraft was the barefoot 200
the 200 was basically a prostar - non powerslot with an outboard for power not an inboard
for inboard they used the then tristar 190 most added a 454 and they called it barefooter or barefooter 190
it can only be better than prostar powerslot (by far one of the worst to barefoot behind ever) and prostar
all 4 of these mastercraft models were very different in one way or another
Depending on what your really after the best bet is an advance or American Skier Barefoot Skier from '86 and up, or '84 or older American Skier 18 Skier - both are great for boom work (no boom extension required and the hull doesn't roll over very much)
if your truly only after barefoot slalom training then find a sanger dx - that's what is still used today @ the 3 event barefoot tourneys

Why do outboards bring up that nasty throw up taste to the back of my throat? ;D Thanks goodness American Skier never had a "outboard" model... even Nautique had a "Bass Nautique" ick... it's like a fedex kid (Cheaper by the Dozen)..

I guess it was a bastard child mold purchased after Ron was not with the company. The boat actually was made by another company then purchased and A.S. logos were stuck all over it. It was nasty.........

When WESMAR bought A/S in 1990 they interviewed me about staying on, they also shared their vision of buying the old Bonito Boat molds from a closed down Orlando shop & Re-naming them American SKiers, I disagreed with their thoughts and was not hired. They did buy the Bonito molds & began building some outboards. They did this again when they moved to Giddings TX., and applied the A/S logo to some of the Invader boats.

Somebody delete them before I see em! ha ...did those outboards have a 351 stuffed in them?
