'89 American Skier Advance. Was wondering when replacing the stuffing box seal, how tight do you initially tighten it to seat it? Being a new seal I would imagine it would need to crush a bit in order to seal on the shaft.

When new & dry on the trailer you are only guessing, I will tighten by hand & stop with the slightest resistance, or after the threads are engaged 2 turns. The real test is in the water, ideally set to a slow drip, then run an hour then reset & you should be good for the season.

Thanks very much Ron!

Ron, this seems to get quite a few ???? raised by the members. If you don't mind, would you please bring some stuffing box packing with you to the Reunion. I'll pay for it as it'll be an easy hands-on topic to go over at the Sat or Sun tech sessions.
Thanks! Looking forward to seeing everyone there!!
