Folks,
Found a great site called craiglook.com and it will search every city of craigslist. Lots of A.S. if you are looking for a new/used boat.

Just out of curiousity...
why does that boat have a full frame around window? my '80 has no frame across top however that '78 appears to, and the side hull graphics appear smaller also overall than my 1980...?
pretty boat--wish my engine was that clean.....

the oldest ones had full frame windshields somewhere in 78-79 they dropped the top rail and it stayed that way thru '84
the wausau boat with small graphics, actually had removed the bubble letters and replaced them with current font decals

yah--figured that out on the graphics--new stickers on old boat. good to know about the window glass frames though....

Does anyone know what the 1990 Commanche should go for? He's asking $14.5. The boat and trailer appear to be in good shape. I'm gonna try and get out there to see it next week. BTW...anyone know what it would cost to ship a boat from Portland, OR to Pittsburgh, PA?

Thats really a Bonita Boat disguised as an American Skier, (one of the reasons I left when WESMAR bought the company) The engine & Volvo drive however if working is worth 2K easy, too bad I already bought one for my Dyne.

Ok folks, Craigslist strikes again. Jaxed-mashed got a cease and desist order from them for unlawful use which is a bunch of crap !! That happened to my last cool website that would search all of craigslist at once as well. I HATE craigslist !!! I wish they would get off there ass and put together a search for the entire listings across the country but they would rather stop everyone else from doing so....F*ckers !!

Not too sure about the colors on the Yellow / Red one... That'll WAKE YOU UP in the a.m.!!! Wonder if thats gelcoat or paint on the hull ?? Looks nice though :)
The Eagle looks like it'll need some work - The inside condition of the clamshell leads me to believe they may not have maintained it as well as they could. Or... maybe its just seen allot of fun in the sun :)

Just curious, does anybody know if the tower on that TBX is factory or not? I'm kinda old school and like a ski boat to have classic lines which means no tower. That's the biggest reason that I have a removable Fly-High, but I also understand that they are stronger, safer and much more functional/practical. This one just looks terrible on that boat IMO but at the same time, I don't think I've ever seen another one that looks like that.

The little red & white boat is one of the primary reasons I left A/S in 1990, the new owners (WESMAR) wanted to apply the A/S name to all the boats acquired from another Orlando Boat builder that went out of business (Bonita Boats I think it was) I strongly disagreed with the Idea of applying the brand A/S onto these boats, I recommended a separate brand name for those. I lost.

Ron I dont know your situations now or what they were, but if I were to have seen that going into an American Skier lineup I would have done the same thing.

We will be politically correct & simply advise them that when they want to know why their "American Skier" won't pull up a slalom skier with that big 4 cyl. Mercruiser I will simply tell them that the factory forgot to install the other 4 cylinders, and the other exhaust pipe ;).

Sounds great, but you'll need to post some pics of everything with more discriptions including Chevy or Ford engine, HP, Barefoot or Skier, trailer, overall condition, etc... Then Ron or Dan may be able to give you some feedback.

The 79 is probably the best bang for the buck @ $2900... it has the same steering wheel too. I think the 79 & 82 have the AM Skier Girl inlay on the throttle knob as well... Very nice. As long as neither one has been "painted" with original gel coat, then they both look like great boats. I really like my 91 Advance, but if I had to do it again I'd go Old School all the way with one of these classic designs :)

The '81 project boat is not an '81 but a 88 or 89, Advance, I see the floor has the raised motor box blocks in white gelcoat that indicates a molded composite floor.

256 hours on the Volante - pretty damn nice. I wonder if he knows the back seat comes up to make a sun bathing platform... Nice boat, but costs twice as much as mine and 5 times as much as that Classic 78... I hear you on that Smitty. Although I have to admit, I've often thought that a Lazer (which I understand was an Advance hull) would be a pretty cool boat with the hotter Marine Power engine. I seem to remember reading something that they were lighter than the Advance and the engine being 320HP should have made them a pretty quick number. At least on paper. I have no idea if that is truly the case or not. Just don't think the same quality was ever there either. Interesting boat that I would love to drive and ski sometime.

The '88 Advance just completed her 2nd Reunion & is now for sale, Just brought in her replacement, a '92 LEGEND that will undergo basic repairs for this summer & then undergo major updating this fall, so go easy on the LEGENDS.

Fort those of you NOT in the know... Ron's 88 Advance looks brand new - hell, most of it is BRAND NEW including all the wiring, plumbing, floors, underfloor foam, etc. If your so inclined, this boat has years & years of problem free running ahead of it... It is a "turn key" boat. You dont have to worry about what shadetree mechanic did or didnt do correctly or if the boat store part-time figerglass guy "hide" some structural flaw. This boat looks and runs like its brand new!!! Ron and the boys did a great job on this boat!!

This one isn't terrible. KTM6s (the dual speaker cans) are decent, older, entry level tower speakers. Looks like the other cans are just regular kicker 6.5s, probably firing down so the driver can get some music as the KTM6s sort of throw the sound out behind the boat. Not how I would have ran things.
The tower mount seems oddly placed. Those towers are designed so that the lower bars follow the windshield more. Why they went outside the hull instead of on top is a mystery to me.

I wonder how the glass is on top of the '86s, lol. I Plan on sticking my front legs on the outside of the hull, and my back legs on top. The boat narrows pretty quick and I want a forward tower mount. (I have a much simpler tower design coming). It all looks pretty thick on the 86. I guess at worst I'll have to spam in some plywood and kitty hair on the back leg mounts.

The Pro80s fetch around $400 to $600 used, the HT4 amp is nothing special...$200-$250 on a good day, I wouldn't pay for an EQ...if you have a decent head unit they are useless in my opinion. Shafts and couplers normally come as a set, $350-$400 depending on how hard he got robbed, the prop is probably around $500.
My concerns...he rebuilt the motor three years ago? Why not mention the hours on the new motor? Questionable to me. Why replace the prop and drive shaft? I had to replace a drive shaft (it happens), but my prop is OK and there is NO NEED for a gnarly 4 blade on these boats (they don't weigh enough, my 3 blade will dislocate your arms at 75% throttle). Makes me wonder if it hit something and ruined them both. He might be like me and just like to spend money on cool stuff, fair enough, but I'd ask about it.
I'm in this $8000 range if everything is FLAWLESS.
Keep in mind, I think Ron has a completely "Ron Restored" Skier for less money...granted, no stereo or tower, but you know that boat if perfect in every way. The accessories are not that hard to add.

Damn....you're good lol Thats mine. I'm from southwestern kansas and bought the boat from my cousin after he hit a sand bar, and then winterized it improperly so it cracked the block. And yes, I do like spending my money on cool stuff..... 8)

Haha, I'm not that good, but I just went through (still at it technically) the whole process of buying one and fixing the previous owners issues. It's a good looking boat, and I hope you didn't take offense, was just being honest with my opinions.
I learned the hard way selling my last boat, anything you do to it outside of restoration and maintenance is real tough to re-coup financially. I maybe broke even on my last one...and that's taking into account the stuff I added new being used at the time I sold it. Hell, you're better off taking the stereo and adding it to your new boat unless you find a guy who want's exactly what you've already done.
I'm in Kansas too, probably heading up to Wilson or Cedar Bluff tomorrow if everything goes well. Where did he find the sand bar? I know there is a nasty one at Horse Thief by Jetmore and another at the west end of Cedar Bluff.
Are you replacing the boat with another? Unless it's a nice new Mastercraft or something I bet you'll end up missing it. :)

And if I sold it for 8 with the stereo stuff I would still make about a grand so that'd be fine. If i can sell it I'd like to get something a little more wakeboard/wakesurf specific, but yes, the American Skier will be missed. I'm thinking about putting an american flag wrap of some kind with the original lettering still on it!

Dodge, no s*#t! I'm in Cimarron. I know the sand pits you speak of, watched more than a couple jet skit's meet there end in that puddle, lol. Can't believe someone put a boat on it! Granted...they have been drying up since I moved here, I bet back in the day there was more water.
I wanted a more wake board specific boat as well, but I'm bound and determined to do the best with what I have. Have you tried tossing in a few fat sacks? I had 500 lbs of people in the back of mine a few weeks ago....the surf was pretty impressive!

I had the pleasure of riding/driving a new 1989 Advance with the Indmar 454 in 1989. It had lots of torque, came out of the hole like a rocketship, and would run approx. 50mph. Also had an enlarged motor box, which consumed more of that precious interior room.

I called about this one bout 3 weeks ago its been ran in salt water and the owner has know clue about the boat or the mant. done on it or or if it were flushed out or properly stored correctly. it was a child support payment from her ex hubby.............. kinda scarey

SOLD to a man in Michigan!!! Apparently, he knows the Tanis family! I'm sure the Michigan color scheme didnt hurt any either... :) $6500 is CHEAP and he's getting himself one very nice boat & trailer!

Hello all, i bought this boat in mid August . We call it a storage yard find , it was covered up for five years. As you can see lots to do. All parts are there just dirty and oxidized. Oh ya it has not ran or seen water for five years...
Any suggestions and info is appreciated. Looks like the project will start in november.

That boat used to be on the cover page of this website. It was a small pic when the home page was formatted differently than it is now. The owner PM'd me a long time ago just say hi. Now I wonder if the add is really that boat or some other scam.

Flushed with diesel to prevent damage from the "ethlene" in the gas... I'm assuming he's trying to spell Ethylene as in Glycol, but what he means to say is Ethanol. Two completely different substances...
I'd steer clear of anything that sounds too good to be true posted by a guy who cant spell.

That red '87 with new upholstery had to have been one of my promo boats, look close to the drivers seat & you will notice the vinyl pulled over a glassed in pvc tube that receives the safety net. The seller probably lost the original safety net & had the uph. shop just cover over it.

Those outboard versions were from the Invader Plant in TX, When WESMAR bought A/S in 1991 they moved it from Ocoee Fl., to Cape Coral FL., then to Giddings TX where they built the Invader Recreation boats. I'm sure their marketing guys thought that if they applied the A/S logo's on other "ski-boats" that they produced it would help. The Invader Plant in Giddings TX abruptly shut the plant down in early 1995, shortly after this is when Susan & I went there to buy the original A/S tooling from WESMAR. What we saw at that plant was scary and depressing. There was a mountain of molds that was was formed with a track-hoe, including the original 18' hull & deck molds that were badly crushed.

I wish mine looked that good! Back in the day ABC's Wide Wolrd of Sports TV show would televise the big water ski events, one of which was the Curt Gowdy Jump Classic. There was another one of these in Essex Il at the ski Site. Hydrodynes were the preferred boats for slalom & jump events because of their wakes & power the boat is under 18' & many were equipped with twin outboards. Mercuriser was one of the sponsors back then & the 'Dyne was the only boat that was powered by a Mercuriser that anyone would ski behind. I have one of these here that was in need of full restoration, started the project & It is still waiting to get into the shop. Really neat boats, a trip to ride in especially if you have never been in one, if the driver makes a tight turn you won't forget it!

Dan is this a Volante hull? That is a 21' right? Is it the same hull as the Advance but longer or totally different? How would wakes compare if it is different?
Is the engine an Indmar? Kinda looks like it. If it was a Commander I'm pretty sure it would say Commander on the manifolds. Not too many Indmars that I've seen in these.
I'm trying to talk my ski partner into jumping ship from CC to this bad boy. All I have to do is tell him it'll run like mine (less 100HP..LOL) but he still knows that mine ran pretty damn well even before the rebuild. He'll also be the first to admit that he would much rather drive and ski my boat than his so this is a no brainer. I just want to confirm my suspicions before we potentially make a road trip.

Eddie - tip to tip could be 21' that includes the platform which is part of the hull
totally different than an Advance hull, wakes are different too easier to cross without skis
Advance has flatter wakes but a bigger hole behind the rooster, Advance spray is better
depending on load and on and on engine - I'd guess is a Hardin Marine Chevy like mine
call me and tell all I know between the too so take a potty break b4 you call
Matt - Deco Advance - Ron loved Miami Vice so encouraged Ken to make a pastel pink and teal boat
some were teal and pink some had the traditional Advance interior layout and some had the "Carerra"
twin front bucket layout (Ron's version of go fast looking boat) I love the 80s :)

I believe that between '87 and '89 American Skier made a limited edition "Deco" Advance. This was an all pastel color schemed boat sort of modeled off of the South Beach Miami look. All of them had a "Deco" decal and a pink Flamingo on the rear. I would have to say that it is one of the most rare American Skiers out there.

That's the boat I'm pretty sure. A guy in Braidwood now has it. Like I said, I think he would take $100 to get rid of it. Underwater gear may be worth that to someone (if it's good, didn't look too bad, but we know that doesn't tell the whole story!) Didn't look close enough at all the engine (in pieces) to determine what may be good there. It was a Commander w/ Hurth trans but I didn't see what the exhaust manifolds looked like either.

Same Hull Mold, Slightly different deck mold, 200-300# lighter, depending on model year considerably more HP, averaged about 5 MPH faster & even more fun to drive.

The Dyne is gorgeous! I have had one of those in partial rebuild for years here at the shop, someday i will have enough "'round-to-its" collected to resume that project. I watched some of the Show Ski Nationals on line a week ago & watched the newer Dyne pull a 48 person pyramid! Yes, I typed 48.

I think the Eagle is the real deal, I called the seller & he needs $$ for a closing & is/was trying to liquidate the boat. He said this boat appeared on asboats.com a few years ago from New York & was black. It does have an original trailer, if I didn't have 4 years worth of personal projects waiting around here i would snatch this up myself. (Was trying to sell for $8500 a month ago)

No way that's an 87. The windshield doesn't have the top frame pieces on it. I'm not positive what year that changed but I know it has to be pre-85. Maybe even earlier.

I sent the seller a message that its a 1984 or earlier model. Would hate to see a guy who appears to be down on his luck to sell his boat then have the buyer come back and sue him for misrepresentation.

Thats probably the third commander "300" engine i have seen now. Does that mean they are 300 hp? If so, what did they do differently on these? Also noticed that all three i have seen have a top mount stater.

"If you are looking for more muscle, Commander has the hardware. Their "Clevor" engine represents an attempt to combine the best of both worlds with an idea borrowed from auto racing. The bottom end is a windsor block mated to Cleveland heads. The result is a 300hp 351 with a 9.3 to 1 compression ratio. According to commander, the engine has a very flat torque curve."
