Title: 1991 Advance Specifications
Post by: Joel on December 28, 2009, 01:06:50 PM
Hi guys,

I'm new to American Skiier with the purchase of a 1991 Advance with the Indmar 351 cu in / 250 HP engine.  Love the boat; it runs great and is solid as a rock, but it needs a new prop and the rudder has some burn on it similiar to one on another post here.  Also, the fuel vent on the upper left transom spills gasoline when it has a full tank - not sure if thats a design flaw or if its a common problem with a known fix???  Are there any sites or publications where I can find the prop size, R or L hand, rudder & shaft diameter and other specifications for this boat?  Or, in the meantime does anyone know the prop, rudder & shaft specs off the top of your head?

Also, I'd like to replace the 3 blade prop in kind but was wondering if a four blade prop would be a good option to consider?  If so, what manufacturer(s) & size 4 blade prop(s) would you recommend?

Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated.  Really looking forward to skiing this spring in my "new" boat  :)

91's were built by WESMAR in Ocoee, Fl & their old build sheets are no longer available. What you should have is a 13x13L on a 1" shaft. The promo boats were using a 13x12LHC,  I would reccomend a 13x12L in a 3 blade, you want to maintain a 4300-4400 max rpm range with the std. Ford motor.

As for the fuel leaking out the vent, inspect the vent line coming off the top of the tank, it should have a loop formed in it sitting on top of the tank before exiting the hull. Sometimes this loop falls off the tank & sits behind it, or a mechanic decides it doesn't need it & cuts it down.

I had good luck with a rudder from Glen L Marine http://www.glen-l.com/ (http://www.glen-l.com/)

Dan & I both have rudders and or the resources to get the correct ones made from the OEM supplier, will try to put together a parts program this next year as the site grows. Off the top of my balding head i can think of 5 diferent variations, make that 6, that has been used and with (10) per style as the typical min. order that would be a lot of nibral to stock.

Thanks Greg & Ron...  Great info.  I'll see if I can find a 13X12L for the time being.  My rudder should be O.K. for a while yet, but will need to be replaced eventually.  I'll keep this thread in mind when it comes time to pull it.
