I have a 93 volante with a Borg Warner 1 to 1 ratio trans anyone know what fluid the trans takes thanks tim

Dexron III. Don't use any synthetics in these tranny's.

Thanks for your post but the fluid is more clear than the red of dex 3 any other type used

Is it possible that whoever did the maint. on the boat before put the wrong fluids in it? Just a thought.

does it happen to look like a milkshake? hopefully the trans cooler is not bad. in any case i would drain and refill and you may need to do it more than once.

My cousin recently bought a 83 Nautique in "rough" condition. A buddy of mine who is a boat mech came over to give it a look and one of the first things he noticed was the tranny was filled with brake fluid. He said that when people have a problem with a slipping borg warner tranny they can prolong the issue (not fix) by adding this. Sure enough, once the case was cracked open, it needed a rebuild.
