Title: 2012 Reunion Results
Post by: RonT on June 18, 2012, 08:24:49 AM
Its Tuesday morning & most have now left or driving home, a few of us decided to stay a couple extra days to soak up the sun & smooth water. Saturday evening we packed out the small conference room for a potluck dinner followed with stories & tech tips till midnight. Special thanks went out to Mike Harry who provided the awards but was not able to attend and Phil G. who does a fantastic job with the A/S website. Everyone who brought a boat (7) received a very unique American SKier custom made decorative glass block for their trophy shelf, they were awesome! Super custom American Skier wall clocks were awarded to: Longest towed - "backfoot 100" or "fast Eddie" who pulled his fire breathing, cove shaking monster Advance from Central Florida. Oldest A/S towed - went to the Gonzales Family for their '80 model, & if there was an award for the most representation for one boat they would have received that too. The third award or "Tanis Choice" was given for the  "Most Original" A/S and that went to original owner  Paul Martel from Michigan who brought his super clean Blue & White '88 Advance, a real time capsule de ja vue .  Pauls boat still has the same original tires, plug wires and A/S hat that he received from his Factory tour when he picked up the boat in 1988!   No injuries, no boat issues that couldn't be fixed with a little duct tape, & everyone was able to ski till their arms were ready fall off. Sunday evening five of our boats received special certificates from the Great State of Tennessee for a formation drive-by that apparently impressed alot of people around Buchanons Resort. BJ brought custom reunion shirts, cuzzies, and key floats for us (has plenty left over & will be happy to sell you one)

We sure wish we could have been there!  Sounds like an amazing weekend on amazing boats.  I hope pictures are to be posted soon - can't wait to check 'em out.

Next year!

I wish I could have been there also.  My boat got mad at me for not taking it and slipped forward on the lift.  Looks like I damaged the front tracking fin and cracked the fiberglass somewhere around the prop shaft stabilizer.  I wish I would known this was coming before I ordered a $1,200 dollar cover set (bow & trailerable)!!!

Yeah, the rewards were really cool. Thanks a lot for all the work you did Mike, it's really appreciated!

I went home Saturday night planning to come back for the tech tips session but while putting the little ones to bed I ended up passing out myself!  I will also be posting the stuff BJ had for sale over the next several days.

Thanks for all who attended and contributed, we had a great time!

Ditto what Ron said.

Amazing weekend and I learned so much more about our boats than I did already. My sister-in-law and her hubby joined us from WI. They're CorrecCraft owners and they absolutely loved it. They're already talking about coming back next year with us.

I have LOTS of pics and video but I'm still recovering from the trip. It sucks getting old and we're still trying to catch up on our sleep. I'll be posting all of it as soon as I can get it all downloaded.

It was also incredible meeting everybody too. Good peeps for sure and some excellent time on the water. It was windy all weekend and hard to find good barefoot water but skiable water was available by subjecting your boat and body to the very high and hard chop out on the main part of the lake to get to some skiable spots. It definitely took it's toll by the end of the weekend. I was really happy to not have to brave that crap by the time we left.

I have a chronic problem of having more cameras than hands and still not take many pics............ I do have a few good videos, I assume I should just upload them to youtube
and submit the link(?)

Eddie we found the cove past the power-lines on Monday 100+ acres of glass :) and during my THIRD encounter with TNs finest he tipped me off to where the footn water is a little further south / south east
Officer Riley certainly would like to see us and more come back again and visit (with life jackets for each head , a THROWABLE, functional fire extinguisher, anchor light, proof of ownership ie: registration, signed and dated bill of sale, etc) still not sure if an anchor is required and assume we need a functional horn too :)

great time and will post pics and vids as soon as I can

Dan T

I picked up / purchased my Skier in a walmart parking lot 150 miles into my 450 mile trip so I didn't have the boat registered in my name but I did have signed registration from the previous owner and bill of sale in the cabin - Officer Riley suggested I keep all documentation I have onboard until the process has been completed and the boat is finally in my name. #1 - safety equipment and registration check on Sat, written warning no throwable  #2 - was everyone else #1 including lecture on no wake areas 300' from commercial docks 100' from others, written addendum to written warning #1.  # 3 safety equipment and registration check - different officer different boat, I was prepared for that one no written warning - and learned about the tree protected strip south of "the island"

Dan,  its a real pain keeping all that crap in the limited amount of storage space a comp ski boat has to offer...  that is,,,  until you really NEED it...  then your damn glad its there  :)   Sounds like the nice Officer had a slow weekend and you guys all look like hardened criminals!!  LOL!!!

We gotta keep a record of all the great ski / foot locations - theres a bunch!  The spot we found last year has a launch located right there - we could have trailered the boats to it now that I think about it   :)   We stayed a couple of days late and the water in front of Buchanans was smooth as glass, especially just around the slight bend on the right!

Looking forward to all the pics & vids   :)

I looked at the pics that are up so far looks like a lot of fun!! I got mine wet for the first time in almost 2 years last weekend and it ran awesome with the new motor so I'll defiantly be there with ya next year!! I've never heard of a lake wanting you to have your bill of sale with ya that seems a little much to me I don't even know where mine is Amy more haha.

Had a great time and once again learned more about the Am Skier. Got a lot of slalom skiing in. Hopefully next year I can get some better barefoot runs in.

Phil,
I normally post all my pics to photobucket and they automatically get resized for posting to a forum then. I've never posted to a gallery like this. Is there anything different I need to do?

Hey Eddie! Great meeting you this past weekend.  You shouldn't need to do anything special as it should resize them for you.  Give it a shot, just head over to the gallery and on the top of the screen you will see "upload file" then select the album "2nd 2012 Annual American Skier Reunion" and then click the "browse" button and select the files on your local computer.  Let me know if you have any problems.
