Guys,
Before I take to the task of building a back seat (my skier came without), if anyone has already built one from scratch and has any good advise, please tell. I am contemplating a simple thick pad with no wood base (6 to 8in) covered in upholstery for the seat bottom and some sort of ply backing and foam upholstered and screwed in for the back rest.

Ditto, I also would like to build a back seat, as my 1979 does not have one, Was there a factory option for a 1979 back seat? Does anyone have pictures ?

My father and I have had some discussions about this for his 77. He wants to get it off the floor slightly this time, even if it's just an inch. Get clever and come up with one that can be raised into a back deck.

OEM back seat bottoms were just a cushion that sat on the floor, a better way is a short frame that allows air to circulate under it. I happpen to be fabricating one for a Malibu that flew out of a customers boat & was run over by a garbage truck on the interstate! When done I can forward some pics of the process for you to get ideas from.

I certainly appreciate it! I will stand Command Duty Officer tomorrow (USCG Sector Mobile- so if anyone feels the need to get lost from the Louisianna/Mississippi border to Carrabelle Florida, I'll be the one sending those White and orange boats, helos and fixed wing aircraft to pluck you out of the drink.) ...anyway, after that I am heading to the mountains and will retrieve my American Skier from the farm in Talladega on the return trip. Standby for some really rookie questions as I "fix her up"... it's a lot different working on your own boat as opposed to working on government boats where there is an endless line of contractors to fix things.
Mostly I'll just post what I'm doing so Phil can have some daily comedic relief.. I'm here for ya Phil!
