Hey guy I am still working on the boat motor but while its apart I'm trying to replace everything I don't like. I was kinda curious what some of you have used or tried or recommend instead of the fiberglass tubing coming off the exhaust manifolds. I have a 83 barefoot skier. Any advice or posts I would sure appreciate! Thanks! (By the way I had to post this on my phone so hope fully I didn't miss anything haha)

I got your email that you sent to me. I'll get some pics of what I did this weekend and respond to your email.
There are several different things that you can do depending on how much of the rest of the exhaust you want to keep or replace.
I did replace my mufflers with SS tubing as well as the new tips and I cut off the front end of the mufflers that have the 45 degree bend in them and reused that bend which worked out very well.
Once I send you some pics you'll get the idea. I don't recall were I ordered the SS tubing from either so I'll try and find that too.

Thanks a lot! All mine has is fiberglass tubing going from the manifolds to the tailpipes which i always assumed was a factory deal. is this this the case?

DustinS...mine came with fiberglass straight pipes(as in no muffling) with a 45 degree bend but the bends were cracked and repaired several times....so I bought 6' of 3" marine wire-reinforced hose and had the local muffler shop bend about 24" of some 3" pipe (not SS--so just temporary--) 45's in it and used about 10" of the rubber hose to attach the manifolds to my steel bends and then the same to attach the bends to my recycled straight portion of the fiberglass straight pipes then again to attach it to the transom thru-hull fittings...
It works great, absorbs all the vibration and sounds awesome too....
I am just waiting for someone to come up to the local muffler shop and pull a perfectly good 3" SS exhaust pipe or part thereof off a new diesel truck to put glasspacks or flomasters or something on and the muffler guy will call me and we'll bend it to replace the non-SS pieces I made for now....and I will also have them weld two small spouts or "spuds" of 2" dia SS so I can run a 2" crossover or "H-pipe" (again using wire-enforced marine hose)...kinda of old school V-8 hot rod trick to eek out a couple extra ponies by balancing banks of cylinders on the exhaust side of the engine....we'll see
cheap and effective anyways...

Thanks for the advice!! my fiberglass tubing will have to work for now i dont have enough time to get the exhaust and engine put in before memorial day, im already cutting it alot closer then i had planned haha.that h pipe sound like a great idea i never even thought of that.

I have never seen fiberglas tube running from the manifolds to the tips but that doesn't mean that they don't exist. The fiberglas tube is just a muffler with a 45 degree bend at the front to attach a length of wire reinforced exhaust hose to the manifolds. At least that's what I had from the factory. If you have true fiberglas tube running to the manifolds, that would be a cool looking setup I gotta believe.

Our 82 is the same way. Almost positive that came factory.

Yep... my 91 Advance has the fiberglass mufflers with the 45 bend forward... they run all the way to the stern where they connect to the flex hose for the through-hull exhaust - sounds great, but LOUD for the back seat passengers (thats why I always drive)... ;)
